Who Is To Blame Lin TV or Cable Companies?

On the WTNH website it says that some people with Adelphia, Cablevision, Cox or Charter cable can not view WTNH-HD (ABC) or WCTX-HD (UPN) as these systems do not carry these two channels. So I would say some people could not get to watch the Super Bowl in HD as these cable systems do not carry WTNH-HD. Well the question is who is to blame Lin TV or the cable companies? I would say Lin TV not the cable companies. After all these cable companies do show WFSB-HD, WVIT-HD, WTIC-HD, WTXX-HD, and CPTV-HD (correct me if this is wrong).

I dunno, but I think there's some sort of dipute between COX Cable and LIN-TV. Because not only is WTNH-DT/WCTX-DT not being carried on COX in Connecticut. COX is not carrying WPRI-DT/WNAC-DT in Providence. WPRI is owned by LIN. WNAC is an LMA, IIRC.

I wrote a very angry letter recently to COX about them not carrying WPRI and WNAC. I received a very nice letter letting me know that its a long process and that negotiations are on going. Gee where have we heard that before....

Why not? It's free over the air. You don't need cable to watch HDTV.

Why don't you just use your antenna...?

I do...I get all Providence stations except WPRI. I get all the Boston stations crystal clear. all on rabbit ears in my house.

So you're saying that you get all Providence and Boston stations just fine on rabbit ears, except for WPRI. I don't have cable (since I refuse to give those idiots at Comcast one dime of my money), and I can get WPRI just fine on rabbit ears where I live in southeast Massachusetts. So, maybe you're saying that it's WPRI's fault that you can't get the station on rabbit ears. There's always someone out there trying to blame the station for silly problems...mainly because they simply don't like the station or their newscasts.

On rabbit ears: I get WBZ sometimes. I don't get WCVB at all (since I live too close to WLNE's tower, I get bleed over from WLNE on Channel 5). I get WLNE crystal clear. I get WHDH sometimes partially clear. I get WJAR and WPRI just fine. I get Hartford's Pax station sometimes. I get Boston's Channel 27 sometimes. I get WLWC fine. I get WSBE just fine. I get Channel 44 clear sometimes. I get WLVI clear sometimes. And I get WNAC just fine...all on rabbit ears.

Is yours amplified? I mean the set-top ones that you plug in for electricity.

The HD signals issues are not the only disputes between COX and LIN. COX has also stonewalled negotiations for carriage of WAPA America (another property of LIN). Cox only wants to offer it in markets where they only provide a digital Spanish package, while not giving a guarantee that someday it will be offered to every market they provide cable services, while LIN wants a deal ala DirecTV or one similar to Comcast (which is adding WAPA America to their "Canales Selectos"/"Cable Latino" packages in several markets this year)

The probable reason why you can't get WPRI-DT

What does WPRI-DT have different than any other station in Eastern Mass, and Providence?

Give up? They're the only digital on VHF Hi (Channel 13).

The remainder are on UHF.

If you are trying to receive the signal indoors, the indoor signals will favor UHF. (UHF typically has better building penetration). So stations like WNAC-DT, which is on UHF 54, probably come in better indoors.

The VHF HI signals will travel farther than the UHF's and will probably do better in the hilly terrains in Western RI and near Worcester.
(WPRI-DT could probably be seen as far away as Westfield, MA. if someone had a high gain enough antenna).

I have a full DTV list (which I will eventually clean up) on my website at

Those things are garbage. They will only amplify a signal that is already there.... and many times it will do it badly. Ususally it just causes more inteference than anything. If you can't get a signal without the amplifier then you won't get one with it either.

I often wondered if that were the case, because I have two sets of rabbit ears, and when the electric one is not on, it receives far fewer signals than the one that has no amplifier at all.

Shawn,

You need to relax. I am not blaming the station at all. I am just stating a fact. I happen to be friendly with two of your anchors an know you ND very well. I like the station and watch it often. Dont take everything someone posts to heart. Maybe its my location.... Not everyone on here is an attacker.
