WHO LEAKED HOWIE'S SALARY TO THE GLOBE?

Great Guy...excellent show...paid well (relative term). Wants to take a new gig for AM drive. Greater Meida wants him in that chair. Why all the fuss?

Looks like someone's trying to play the "class warfare" card against Dr. Carr:

How so? Nobody, including Howie, has ever pretended that Howie was doing his show for minimum wage, and only a naif would think he was the low priced help. What it does do is make Howie's claim of "indentured servitude" a little tougher sell. And once he tried to float that balloon, his being surprised that someone would try to counter it is just silly.

Any guesses as to who these "industry executives" might be?

Howie, for one, since he talked about it all the time. And, what high visibility players make is pretty well known in media circles, so you didn't need to be an 'insider' to know what Howie was pulling down. In fact, I think a non-insider gave you just about that same info a couple of weeks ago

Regards.

When I worked in that building, one day a month was known as "cupcake day." That's when the co. sprung for cupcakes to celebrate every employee's birthday that month, instead of people doing it on their own blah blah.

Each employee was invited to have one.

Howie once took 21.

I'm not saying he ate them all. But, someone did.

"Now Milton...pass the cake on so everyone can have a piece"

The Globe story this morning is quite funny, as they spare no sarcasm ('servant') in backhanding Carr

Errrrrr.....the 'servant' remark originated in Howie's camp, not the Globe.

Now, I can well understand why you think quoting someone's remarks back at them would be dirty pool, but that's why folks should consider what they say before they say it.

I meant "class warfare" in the sense that the Globe is clearly trying to imply that he doesn't deserve that amount of money.

Maybe ETM's Boston cluster sales number's should be leaked? That would be would be very interesting reading. I didn't get my MBA at Case Western... but I know how to do my "goes-intas" and some of the ETM business math just doesn't add up.

As mentioned before, HC's pay is relative.

Would anyone who posts on these boards be satisfied if their compensation was a fraction of the value they created with their own talent? That's rhetorical...don't post back with your answer...I don't care. And I've heard the ol' "without the microphone...where would they be".

...the longevity and success HC's had with newsprint, TV, radio and recent book publishing speaks for itself.

Wouldn't everyone like to know how much "be quiet and go away" cash was thrown to certain "organizations" for D & C's on-air miscue about Little Joe's "vacation" from the Franklin Park Zoo? How about the amount of cash ETM threw at having that inaugural Survivor winner and tax-cheat as a Star 93.7 part-time AM drive host? Or the absolutely insane "can't make our money back" deal for RS broadcasting rights. Or the cash is ETM saving with the robotic MKK? Maybe everyone would be interested to see what the expense line for "managment" at ETM Boston totals up to.

When HC wanted some love and couldn't get his phone calls returned, he did what any one of the legions of posters on this site would do....went looking for something better.

Guy wants to leave...regardless of ETM's recently "found" checkbook.

And the best criticisms that some are posting here are about his weight and the undisguised jealousy at his current pay. ETM should hire one of these jealous posters who have "paynis-envy" as HC's replacement. Give them the mic and headphones 5 days a week....see what "ratings" they get.

When do I start. Could do a better job than Carr with my eyes closed which would be easy since Carr has been sleep walking through his show for years. Same topics, day in day out, predictable and boring.
How many "death pools" how many old drivers how many illegal Spanish speaking immigrant diatribes. Ad nauseum.

Need something new and unpredictable every day. Carr show needs toi go.

You're making my point. ETM should let him go. According you and others he's an over fed, over paid predictable gas bag that is keeping a chair someone more talented could take over.

As far as you filling his vacated seat, hard to imagine you'd get past the interview with JK and JW... given all the posts you've written about them?

Does it say magician on your resume?

;) From the Book of Radio Exodus:

JK refuses Howie's request and oppresses Howie still further, ordering him to make a compelling show without talking about the obvious. Howie subsequently complains to Higher Power, who announces to him that he will display his power to such an extent that the Entercom Boston Management will be keen to send the Howie away, even with all the jewels of the WRKO.

A series of plagues sent onto ETM Boston, each time acting through Howie. Since each one has respite, and the ETM Boston management "magicians" are capable of duplicating some of them, JK becomes increasingly stubborn. Finally, a great plague, killing all the WRKO ratings occurs, but passing over the PM drive daypart of WRKO, since they have completed the passover ritual, marking their show. JK consequently relents and is only too glad to get rid of Howie.

Sounds like a good movie....Heston stars as Howie!

Not my definition of class warfare. Jealousy, perhaps.

At least JK and Mini-me know where I stand. Won't stab them in the back...like ahem....HC.

He cannot talk like the common man if he refuses to live like one.

Oh please, Rush has been doing that for years! Hell, name me a single nationally-syndicated conservative talker who HASN'T been doing that?

Just wondering, but what does the 'common man' talk like or live like? If someone who considered himself a 'common man' wanted his own take on the world situation, wouldn't he buy a tape recorder instead of a radio?

Since talk radio is essentially preaching to the choir, wouldn't folks be looking for people who can concisely, logically, and clearly enunciate what they themselves think, rather than just have their own words quoted back to them verbatim? Heck, W.F. Buckley didn't speak like a 'common man', unless you're talking about a very uncommon common man, but anyone listening to or watching Firing Line certainly would come away knowing exactly his position on whatever topic was being discussed and at a minimum know more about the topic than before they started viewing.

People don't need somebody playing the 'common man', they need somebody who can discuss the concerns of the average person (whomever that may be) and with an angle they can appreciate and probably agree. People want to listen to people who 'talk' better, and who they perceive as being more informed -since that is their job- than they.

I don't know if the lawsuits suddenly got settled, but according to a Free Republic post, "Severin just mentioned that there is a big surprise coming to TKK in September, but that he couldn’t talk about it specifically. He said Howie’s name in the midst of clearing his throat."
Hmm! Maybe Jay is just warming listeners up to the fact that Howie will land there eventually but I wonder
if something's happened... :) I didn't actually hear it; "Disturbin" did...
