Who made comments about The Station fire victims on 99x?

There was a fire at a nightclub in Rhode Island that killed 100 people. In the days afterwards one of the 99x morning characters made a comment along the lines of many Camaros being would be for sale after the fire. It seemed like a lame, tacky way of trying to boost your career by saying something shocking, I think it was soon enough after the fire that victims were still dying in hospitals and the count was going up. It sounded like the kind of stunt that makes for some potential Karma down the road. Anyway, some of the many ex 99x morning people are now on the air in Boston, did one of them make the comment? It would be interesting because they may possibly be broadcasting to the same audience with the same music that the victims would have listened to.

A thought....although I think it's flawed because it was a Great White show and WBCN doesnt play anywhere near that kind of rock music. They're more modern and not a cheese hair metal station. Sounds like you're kinda hoping for some sort of karmic retribution against the ex-99xers. Isn't that in itself also bad karma?

The way I remember it it was the night guy who said the Rode Island auto trader would be full of camaros. Yes that night guy went on to mornings and now is in Boston. I must be twisted because I thought it was funny as hell. I'm guessing you are one of the crazys that call the station to say "That was mean and I will never listen to your station again" only to call a few days later about something else.I heard late night talk shows make jokes about it (not as funny as as the camaro comment) so why dont you go after them. Give me a break it is something that happened over 3 years ago. GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having lived in Connecticut the Camaro comment is 1205 correct. I also heard hairspray sat on grocery shelves for months after that.

Ok, You have the attention of the Providence Board."The station" was the name of the nightclub that caught fire feb 20, 2003 or 4. The night club was in a old wooden structer like alot of houses and buildings in New England. The fire effected everyone in the Rhode Island Mass and Conn area. Everyone in RI knew of someone who went to the Nightclub that night. For weeks a local TV station(WLNE-6) at the end its broadcast aired pictures of those who perreshed and still does on the anniversary and at Christmas. It was a Black day on the night in February. A memorial is planned for the sight but nothing has been erected as of yet. There are lawsuits pending against everyone from Budwieser Beer to the local TV station(WPRI-12) that happened to be video taping night club safety that particuler night. There is also a lawsuit against local Rock station 94.1 WHJY who lost thier overnight guy that night and who's body was not found for days later. Listening to WHJY for those few days was tough. Every jock on the air was in a state of shock and very difficultly handed thier shows and sometime crying on the air while trying to do the weather or intro a song.Biecly (sp) the tour manager has been sentenced to 4 years I think at the ACI here in RI. While owners Micheal and Jeffery Derderian are awaiting thier sentencing.Jeff was a reporter for WPRI- a defendent in the law suit.As of that day "Great White" music has not played on any RI radio station since that night.

99x used the guy's comments in promo spots and they aired it at the time when the events were still fresh, his tone was smarmy and it was specifically meant as in insult to imply that the victims were trash and relish in the attention of the controversy. I didn't realise that they had milked it on the morning show by presenting those that were offended as prudes and those that liked as cutting edge. 99x seemed to be struggling to find a hip image at the time and have been going down in ratings ever since.

There's also lawsuits against Citadel Broadcasting as one of their stations (XL-102.3) in near-by New London, Connecticut gave away tickets to the concert. That station has changed formats twice since the fire. From Classic Rocker XL-102.3 WUXL to Adult Contemporary MIX 102 (or Mix 102.3) WXLM. That change happened shortly after the fire. Then last spring they changed from Adult Contemporary MIX 102 to News-Talk 102.3
