Who owns KOIT-1280 now?

I had a look at Bonneville's website and to look at their list of radio stations they owned and I noticed that KOIT-1260 is no longer listed. Does this mean they have sold it? Or is it still technically owned by Bonneville but they don't want to acknowledge it?

Obviously, nobody wants a low power, high dial position AM that does not cover most of a market... Bonneville is selling 1260, and probably considers the station is not part of ongoing operations... nothing being hidden, just that they do not consider it important. Since the ocmpany is privately owend by the LDS, they have no disclosure requirements, either.

It's 1260 Khz. and Bonneville does still own KOIT-AM. KOIT-FM, KDFC and KMAX are still owned by Bonneville except they are under an LMA to purchase (exchange) agreement.

Bonneville does not care about the on going operations of any of the San Francisco properties because they are getting out of the market. Bonneville only cares about protecting their interest in the SF properties through the closing.

This all takes lots of time, attention and money.

DavidEduardo, 1260 , no matter what you say, back in the day KYA1260 was the place to be! It got excellent reception in Concord, and it sure provided me hours and hours of music and a LONG List of personalities, that will never be repeateted! Wow how lucky we are to have The Wolf,, Free FM. The Bone, Star 101.3 and Movin 99.7 This Bay Area has nothing to listen to! And probably wont for a long time! Yes I would much rather turn on the radio and hear Chris Edwards on KYA 1260 than any of these stations mentioned! Radio in the Bay Area has changed drastically and not for the good! How many more times does 95.7 need to try Country? Take the Wolf to Bakersfield, they need it! Kenny in concord

Nobody is denying that. But in the many decades that have passed since then, several things have happened:

1. Man made interference has increasd exponentially... to the point that it takes many times the signal to be listenable on AM today vs. 30 or so years ago. Computers, medical equpment, less diligent power line maintenance, dimmers, high efficiency light bulbs, etc., etc. all make AM ultra noisy, as do new stations and increased powers on existing ones.

2. The market has expanded geographically. The basic San Francisco metro extends from Santa Rosa to Campbell, which is many times the area that KYA, today, is capable of being listened to in.

Wow how lucky we are to have The Wolf,, Free FM. The Bone, Star 101.3 and Movin 99.7 This Bay Area has nothing to listen to!

What you are really siaying is that you have nothing to listen to. Most people do find things they like on the radio int he Bay Area, and station owners are constantly testing new ideas against listener groups. Obviously, what you would like to hear is not mass appeal enough to warrant giving over a signal to it.

And probably wont for a long time!

Or forever. If you are looking for a recreation of the programming from One Nob Hill Circle, forget it. That appeals to only over-55's and, through no fault of broadcasting, has no client appeal and will not be done. Most clocks don't run backwards, in other words.

Yes I would much rather turn on the radio and hear Chris Edwards on KYA 1260 than any of these stations mentioned!

And this tends to confirm my suspicion that you are out of or nearly out of the sales demos radio can funcition in. I am sure there are many fans of 50's (KOBY anybody?) or 60's Top 40 (Color Channel 91, anyone?), but the age group is predominantly outside the one that advertisers want so there is just no way a commercial station can do this.

Why don't you suggest that KQED change to a KYA/KOBY/KEWB/KFRC hybrid?

Radio in the Bay Area has changed drastically and not for the good! How many more times does 95.7 need to try Country? Take the Wolf to Bakersfield, they need it! Kenny in concord

I have no idea whether this will work, but country does get most of its listening in 25-54 and that is where the money is.

Re: Who owns KOIT-1260 now?

Does anyone have any jokes to tell about a new format on 1260 Khz.? Everyone seems so serious.

How about all French all the time, just to make sure no one listens.

How about audio of public domain movies all the time?

All games shows? Hmmmm..didn't KFRC do that?

I already mentioned all Russian before, but most of the Russian community speaks English.

We could say all Asian, but we already have that with 1400 Khz. from the American Graffitti Radio Tower in Berkley.

Let's see...how about all 70s all the time? ............wait a minute that might sound good.

Can you guys make up something for a format and not be serious?

I will look for your ideas.

Actually KABL-98.1 tried All 70's back in 1994 as "Big 98.1 The Biggest Hits of the 70's", before they morphed into Classic Hits KBGG "K-Big 98.1 The Biggest Hits of the 70's AND MORE". The "AND MORE" included the 1960's and 1980's Rock Hits in addition to the 1970's. It started out as all 70's music "Pop, Rock and R&B" but became a strictly ARROW type of Rock Hits format with a specialty Saturday Night Show emphasizing all hits including disco, called "Saturday Night Groove Thang". K-Big became history in 1997 becoming 98.1 KISS FM KISQ.

Im glad those days are gone, along with Darian O Toole, "The Dancing Fool" What ever happened to her?
