WHO PICKS UP FREE FM AUDIENCE?

Who picks up ZON audience? KSLX? KDKB? KZZP? KUPD? KTAR? KFYI?

I don't think most of them go to any one station.

KTAR is hoping some of the listeners head their way. One of their liners makes reference to FreeFM "blowing up."

Actually, I think some of the FreeFM listeners will flock to Kid and maybe even Gaydos. Kid puts on a good show and seems to attract a younger listening audience. I'll be interested to see if Kid gets a bigger presence on KTAR's web site and more promos running during the day.

ditto. the station flipped cause no one listened.

No, it flipped because it didn't make enough money. KLSX or KLLI's 12+ numbers aren't that impressive but they bill very well because the format allows more avails than a music format, certain shows get a premium, demos, etc. You knew when every stopset had a song playing in the local inventory window that there were problems. Of course, God forbid we would bonus the few paying clients we have to try and get them results. Nope, we'll confuse the listeners with a song!

Well, the only show that had listeners on 101.5 was almost over by the time those shows start on KTAR. And point to protests all you want, but what does that mean? I think 200 or so people protested The Buzz, Leykis' affiliate in Seattle, flipping 18 months ago, and now the station is breathing down longtime leader KMPS' neck. Dick and Skibba on FREE in SD had a small protest, and they got a 0.0 in their first book and IIRC a 0.2 in the next trends. Woo-hoo!

Like any Free FM audience, it was probably heavily mixed, though leaning to adult males. And the people that did listen to that station listed to that and nothing else.

And that's it. Consider the advertisers it has. During the early days of FHF, one minute every hour seemed to be an ad for sales positions at CBS Radio. More recently, the only local ads I heard were for Bombshells Cabaret and Power Dealers. There were several ads for a Southern California mortgage company. And then there were the long (KLSX) spot sets where KZON had to insert a record. Unfortunately, this station just didn't seem to sell well.

But that's OK, we'll be hearing those great Mark Mitsubishi ads on JAMS soon enough.

No one thinks KFYI will pick up part of the audience? Men looking for talk.

Today I had an email in mybox from Chuck Powell of The Morning Ritual inviting listeners to check out his show. Nice to see Edge is trying to get listeners.

I work with some die-hard Leykis fans who both scoffed when I mentioned KFYI. KFYI is great for those who want political talk. But for men who want adult(?) talk from the likes of Carolla and Leykis--it WON'T be from KFYI.

Die hard Leykis fans?

I hope you used single syllable words and lots of pictures when talking to them....

103.9 the edge will get most of them. When 101.5 went to talk most switched to the edge. Now they'll get the rest.Leykis fans can now go get their ged. :D

Read a Scarborough report for LA and then tell us Leykis and FreeFM don't have a lot of affluent people listening. The listeners, not the callers, count... I read an article with Glenn Beck in Radio Ink (?) not long ago saying his average hold time was something like 75 minutes, and once you got on, you were on the air for about 35 seconds. Point being, only the bumbling losers have time to wait to be on the air with many of these programs, and it shows.

The last ratings showed 101.5 free fm had no listeners, thats why they changed their format.Doesn't matter what was written in LA,what matters is the Phoenix ratings. :)
