KNTH seems to have both national and local news coverage, plus traffic. The only shows that I have heard on this station are syndicated ones. In that regard, KPRC and KNTH (and KSEV) could be considered similar. I thought that KTRH was going away from the syndicated shows, but they still have the Coast to Coast show on in the early AM as well as the Ed Shidt show in the evenings when the Astros aren't on.

From a listening standpoint, I would rather have someone local on rather than listening to a nationally syndicated program. When Limbaugh and others began the syndicated popularity, it has now grown to the point that many listeners resent it. They want their "local" radio back - but the conglomerates such as Clear Channel have too much invested in the pipeline of syndicated shows to not use them on their own stations.

If I had to rank the stations in order of preference (best to worst) I would rank as follows:

1. KTRH
2. KNTH
3. KPRC
4. KSEV

If I threw a wrench in it and added KFNC, the rankings would be:

1. KTRH
2. KFNC
3. KNTH
4. KPRC
5. KSEV

I remember the days of late night talk being Larry King. There is a late night talk show put out by the Texas State network, Texas Overnight, that originates out of Dallas. It competes with the Coast to Coast show well in that it doesn't have the lunatic fringe calling in about the pope being a space alien and the Charley Jones is pretty good. I think KOLE/KRCM carry it in Beaumont, not sure if any Houston stations carry it.
