What's the vibe in the CC building?
Someone from the CC building has to know.

I hate the word interim. They know Marc's track record of success and they know that he inspires people to give him their best. The word interim usually implies that the search is very much open, and the company wants to go in some other direction that they can't fill just by promoting the next likely candidate within the building.

I hate to say that I think being a truly nice guy probably doesn't work to Marc's advantage in the mindset of his current company. Call me a cynic, but I can't help but wonder if their next choice will involve another person with affiliations to Houston's city council or some key political appointment. I know, stating so will invariably bring out the f-f-f-fangs of a certain corporate kinda guy, but hey, I have to ask myself: if I were Clear Channel and I really wanted to bargain with the FCC for a bigger ownership cap in my largest markets, wouldn't I try to kill two birds with one stone and fill my vacant management positions with career politicians?

Remember the Clear Channel exec who wrote this a few months back?

I love it. Radio is stale and the last thing it needs is more curmudgeons trying to relive 'how it was'. We are all on the cusp of a new era in media and radio is just a small part of it. Nobody has experience in the new landscape and people who have been mired in radio for a long time are at a distinct disadvantage. I hope there are more moves like this throughout our industry.

Good luck councilman

I wondered aloud back then if we wouldn't see more of this in the future. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they do the sensible thing for radio, or the sensible thing for politics.

That said, I do hope Marc gets that position permanantly. Nobody deserves it more, and it would be nice to see one of the good guys win it for a change.

I agree with you whole-heartedly about Mark. I also hate the word "interim". If anyone deserves it, it IS him-- but clear channel seems to have problems with committment.

Kinda like a relationship. They've got a good thing, probably can't do any better-- but don't want to lock it down before making sure there aren't missing out.
