Who thinks KHMX needs to switch to a Top - 40 format?

That possibility has been talked about for years on this board, particularly since the market consolidations in 2000.

CC has to be tempted to make a flip, given the success of KHKS "Kiss 106.1" in DFW. However, are they ready to battle KRBE and the other similary targeted stations in the market? It may come down to how the demographics play out--KHMX in recent years has pretty much become a "Buzz Lite" aimed at women--and it may be doing okay in the overall CC scheme of things.

I agree!!! Its a toss up which station is more worn out.

A. Mix 96.5
b. The Point 106.9

Lets really go out on the limb!

c. Both

Supposedly, KHMX is pretty much hitting its target demos (women 18+). So, I really don't see them changing. Do, I think they could do better as a Top 40 "Kiss"... yes. I'm actually surprised CC hasn't tried to challenge KRBE. I thought for sure, when they got Sam Malone, that it was going to happen, but they have not.

The only thing "The Point" is hitting is the skids. I do not understand Cox in this market at all! ??? I've never seen a company, who is so satisfied with mediocrity.

COX might end up selling The Point to Libermann. That's right, It might end up playing Mexican. The Only stations COX wants to concentrate are 93Q, Country Legends, and K-Hits. On the other hand, I think COX might do the right thing by flipping it to CCM (Like Tulsa's Spirit 102.3) or Urban AC.

I think CCM is a definite possibility for Pointless. Cox took on a long standing Christian station in KXOJ in Tulsa, and they are doing well competing with them. The longer Pointless is around, the more I think this might happen.

If Cox is going to unload a station, it would make more sense to dump the 97.1 frequency, and move Country Legends to 106.9. Liberman would probably turn 97.1 into a simulcast of 850/101.7.

Unlikely for Urban AC, but the CCM idea is intriguing. Cox's KKCM in Tulsa streams, so you can check the potential new format at: http://spirit1023.com/

Mix isn't gonna change formats. Just morning shows.
I think Mix might end up becoming KISS-FM (A Clone of KHKS in DFW.) look on the bright side, Besides MIX, KRBE's closest competitors are KBXX, KPTY, & KTBZ. KRBE is like a Jekyl & Hyde station-Mix all day, Party all night. This is what listeners want.

Agreed The Point is worn out but thats the fault of the person(s) in charge of the playlist. I've said it so many times if Cox could just look at an old CHR playlist from KKBQ (if they're still in existance) to see exactly what we were listening to in the 80s it would make a difference. Not sure how much. I really think KHPT has potential but they have to make it happen. They cant expect a station thats on automatic pilot to play the same songs over and over to do much. They also need a livelier presetation. Station promos and IDs should sound like the 80s. All the jocks speaking in that same mundane tone has got to go. The point is a classic 80s format. ITS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN GUYS!!

I happen to know its not going anywhere soon.

Maybe re-branding KHMX as "Kiss 96-5" wouldn't be a bad idea if Kidd is coming. But in my estimation, blowing up the Point and starting over as "Planet 106-9" would be a stellar move. Those were the days, not so long ago really, but they just didn't last long enough!

On the other hand, I think Alternative AC would be a good fit. It would be patterned after 102.9 The Planet-A short-lived station before it was sold to Univision.

Their playlists are comletely different, so I wouldn't compare the two. But yes they are both worn out.

"Mix isn't gonna change formats. Just morning shows. Kidd Kraddick in the morning by the summer. See ya!

I doubt they are ready to can their precious [EDIT]
and his sidekick Boo Radley or whatever the hell her nickname is. Too many soccer moms like him.

I think that each one of these three stations need to re-format MIX, KRBE, and Sunny. They all are really starting to sound the same. Which is sad considering two of them are owned by the same company. KRBE should've stuck with Top40 good move Clueless.

[EDIT-vulgar]

Hey Rocker, I believe you're referring to Michele Fisher-who along with Sam Malone-used to work at 104.

Nope. You are wrong, that show is on its way out the door. Speculate all you want, but come this summer it is bye bye Sammy. See Ya. Try boring the Point.

Man i get edited for calling Sam a do---bag but I called chico and rascal that on many occasions. Can you confirm this Tumor or are you still bitter that R & R got the boot from the mix?

I knew who I was referring to. I was just poking fun at her nickname. Mickey Boo is it?

Well, someone has got to do something. Seems like change is in the air. Along with prodigious amounts of pollen.
BTW, what does a "Planet" play?

The Point and whatever they are calling KLDE could merge formats, dump the 60s and the really lame stuff, with a 1975 - 1985 core (and yes, play the disco too). Don't tell people that its "the best of the 70s and 80s" or whatever...just call it "Music Radio 106.9" a la WLS/WABC in the late 70s. People would eat it up and enjoy the music they loved in high school and college WITHOUT being reminded of how OLD they are getting.
