Three-way tie....Dr. Don Rose, Charlie Van Dyke and Larry Lujack.
And Hell, it's hard to leave Ron Chapman out of there. I would have been happy to have had the talent of any of these guys.

I've always felt DJ's come in many flavors. Some have incredible voices that make them sound great. Some have incredible technique that make them sound great. Some have content that makes them sound great. Some are or have a character that is the act. Some have an intangible that makes them sound great.

RON CHAPMAN always had incredible content, either localism, awareness, relatability, or sheer comedy.

MIKE SELDEN had an incredible voice, excellent timing, and a blue sense of humor than he occasionally walked the line with (before it was in vogue).

CHARLIE VAN DYKE has probably theee most amazing voice ever to grace Top 40 radio. He also had excellent content and technique.

BILL GARDNER is one of the best at observational relatability. Kind of a Seinfeld of DJ's.

KEN DOWE created one of the greatest characters ever for a DJ. (Granny)

RUSS KNIGHT was probably one of the greatest night jocks ever along with JIMMY RABBITT and Cat Simon, from the old days.

CHARLIE AND HARRIGAN (Chapman/Woods or Woods/Menard) was an awesome team show that set the standard for that sort of thing.

LARRY DIXON has an awesome voice and an incredibly understated/subliminal/ intelligent sense of humor.

I used to listen to Kitty when she was on WRDU back in the early 80's. Between her and Tom Guild and the old Reynolds and Silva show, WRDU was tho only station I listened to when I lived in NC.

donicus,

I do not know if you know this or not, about 2 years ago, WRDU went Country ("The Rooster") They kept the same call letters. They constantly are extremely close to the bottom of the ratings. As you know, "QDR" is the power-house in town! Several folks on the Raleigh/Durham/Greensboro board think "The Rooster" is about to croak. After Kitty was let go, she did a lot of voice over work. She still did her "Jazz Brunch" on a coastal radio station. She is now on mornings (6am-9am) on 100.7, "The River" (Classic Rock)

Thanx for the info, Stuart. I did know that RDU was a country station, but didn't know what happened to Kitty. Tom Guild and I are friends on Face Book, so I hear some of the stuff going on back there.
