Who will be Tulsa's new official christmas station

Now that Mix is out who do you think it will be? I think it would help 92.9 the most. Christmas BOB FM a lot of people would find them. With Mix letting it go I think this is a rare opportunity for another station to take over. I know there are a lot of office and house party's that have an all christmas station playing that means new listener's. I also saw OKC has two station's that switched today.

I'm good with nobody going all-Christmas music until Christmas Eve... Is your regular format worth listening to, or not?

Have to agree. I think the novelty has worn off going all Christmas. If anybody cares for my opinion, sprinkle a few great holiday songs in with your regular format. That is how it worked for so many years. AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY! I bet the number of HOHoho stations is way down this year.

93.5 is a stream so it's not programed in Tulsa. I don't know if they can just cut it off and do ther own thing. I think it would be HUGE for them to do a Christmas format if they can. I think a lot of people in Tulsa don't even know there is a 93.5 in Tulsa. This is a good way for people to find them. They could keep there name with promos of there format returning after christmas. Then they can take a better run at 94.1 after christmas. Tulsa's NEW And Only Official ALL-Christmas Station Chrome 93.5. That sounds good.

Exactly In-Tulsa. They don't have much to loose other than a little effort. The thing is in their parking lot. I wouldn't think it would be much of anything for them to re-program their iHeart Radio/Premium un-Choice Nexgen computer to pickup the holiday version, or even download it themselves and program it. Honestly, I can't stand "holiday" stations other than the day of Christmas itself. Even then it's of limited use to me. But, I'm not the public. It makes a lot of sense for them to use it for such a service and SELL more than they probably ever have on that little 250watt hairdryer.

Bad decision. Unless they are going to come out as a different format after XMas, they made a huge mistake. Any influx from Star103 has been lost. They don't have any marketing money so this will not work. Just as they were building a new station, they pulled the plug. Can't fix stupid.

Well played Star103, uh,Rock103 (Billy-FM).

If it makes you feel better, my grandma loves 94.1 now. She is 78!

You are way off. This is a great move for a station like 94.1. I bet they will have the highest numbers they have ever had!

I've noticed 94.1 was promoting itself as "the new 94.1" with no mention of "The Sound." So, it seems possible they're planning a format change.

As for whether or not it's a good move, it depends on their audience composition. If it's a mostly male station, this is a disaster. However, if it's mostly female or 50/50, it will probably help, though going all-Christmas usually doesn't have any long-term benefit.

I think the long-term benefit will be there. I had two family members ask me today when 96 was going to change. Both are female's one is 36 the other is 34. I told them they are not going to do it this year but 94.1 already has started playing it. Nether of them have even heard of 94.1. When they left they both had set it in there cars. That's two new listeners that have never heard of them. It will be good for 94.1.

The problem is, if 94.1 doesn't play what your family wants to hear after it goes back to its regular format, they won't be back. If the station skews heavily male, they'll have upset their core listeners for over a month. They may not be back either.

Of course, if the audience has enough females or it's changing to a more female sound, it will probably be okay. However, even traditional AC's go up with the female audience when they go all-Christmas only to find those who prefer stations like K-95.5 FM go right back. After all, females make up about half of KWEN's audience. Also, there's a decent percentage of the AC audience that can't handle a full-month of Christmas music, though they usually come back after the holiday season's over. Competitors usually go up, too, just not as much.

Arkansas board says Little Rock's only AC has already flipped to all Christmas. Makes me wonder where AC fans listen for their music? Seems like it might tip them toward the idea that many younger ears have already gone for: leaving radio for online, satellite or their self chosen digital personal programming. ???

I have it on good authority that there will be no significant programming change post-Christmas. Their new tag line reinforces their "new" direction: 60's 70's and 80's. In other words, a much more traditional Classic Hits lean than what they've been programming. They're looking to gain from Star's format tweak. I must say I haven't been impressed. The programming is not very good.

Looking at Mix 96's Facebook page, when they announced they wouldn't be going all-Christmas, the comments were pretty evenly split with about half saying all-Christmas for a month or more was overkill while the other half was upset with this year's announcement. The comments since have been almost all negative with people wanting all-Christmas, but it's probably like customer support: nobody calls when they're happy. One thing's for sure, Cox never does anything haphazardly, and the majority of their AC's have discontinued all-Christmas from Thanksgiving through Christmas Day. So, the company clearly did some research that convinced them sticking more closely to the real format would be a better choice.

As for where the AC fans who don't want continuous Christmas music go, in Kansas City, Jack FM and its previous incarnation, 80's E-105, used to spike pretty dramatically when both KUDL & Star 102 were trying to see who could out-Christmas each other. Those who are fans of The Sound but don't like Christmas music have a similar option in Bob FM.

Correct. Nobody will post that they really like something, they will just complain when it is not right. We do that with everything in life. I never call over the restaurant manager to compliment the meal or the server, but maybe I should.

Bob-FM will benefit from the KTSO flip.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea for Journal though, maybe nobody has thought of this, and it may be too late by now. I thought maybe Journal should have stunt all-Christmas on 92.9 Bob FM since last month and bring back Soft/Mainstream AC to 92.9 on December 26 as 92.9 Lite FM or just simply 92.9 KBEZ like it once used to be before Renda blew it up for Adult Hits as 92.9 Bob FM in June 2010.

After a brief uptick immediately after the change, Bob's ratings have gone way south. The most recent book was a complete disaster. However, I'm not sure there's any benefit in bringing KBEZ in its old mold back. KBEZ was on a horrible downward spiral when Renda blew it up.
