Cumulus will

It has to be a Cumulus station. Oldies seems to be dying nationwide... so perhaps WAVH. Besides that the obvious answer would be either WYOK or WJLQ... hopefully both.

But where would the flipper go? Country is overdone, CHR/Top-40 has flopped for Cumulus, they've already got Urban cornered, and the non-coms have Christian covered. Would it be wise to take on TK or the Rocket? What else is left?

FM Talk?

Re: Cumulus will

WYOK won't flip the ratings keep growing and WABB keeps falling. They have done well with AJ and those guys in control, the guy before him was an idiot but didn't hurt things to bad. The oldies is probably gone, maybe something in the rock world, but next to switch with be the CC talk. How do I know? Just call me Mr. Cleo

FM Talk... Where would you put it?

Clear Channels new FM Talk station WBUV 104.9 still puts a good signal over Mobile county, right? They also own news/talk WPMI-AM in Mobile. Unless the contracts for the big name talk shows are about to expire for Cumulus' WCOA-AM in Pensacola and WFTW-AM in Fort Walton then I can't imagine Clear Channel starting up a Mobile/Pensacola FM Talk station. Of course I know nothing, maybe they'll start a "hot talk" station or a station with second tier shows. But what FM format will CC sacrific for talk? WYCL?

I still think the only company that owns stations needing new formats is Cumulus.

that would be nice if 100.7 went back to classic rock
______________

Remember, WBUV's CP (if/once fulfilled) ends any city-grade coverage of Mobile. Whatever happens at 104.9 is most likely going to be geared toward the Mississippi coast--namely Biloxi, Gulfport, and Pascagoula.

Some shuffling at WPMI 710 would be the only talk-radio related moves I'd expect from Clear Channel Mobile, if any take place at all.

I agree with you however--it's Cumulus that's most likely to have a station get overhauled...and it's likely WAVH, Oldies 106.5. FM Talk would be an interesting experiment, but I wouldn't be surprised if 106.5 simply shifts to 70s/80s Classic Hits.
______________
What, you were expecting me to make sense for a change?

Re: Cumulus will

If you're talking about Ted Striker...you are sincerely wrong. Ted produced record numbers for that station, and was royally screwed over by Cumulus. If Striker could have programmed the station without the eye of Jan Jeffries it would/could have beaten WABB.

And if you think AJ is controlling the station, you better think again. I know that the music is being scheduled through another Cumulus MD out of Harrisburg, PA.

I believe whatafreak is right on this one. Even if the music is being scheduled out of Harrisburg, it certainly comes from a consultant's approved playlist. I know it's a Jan generated playlist when I hear "Mr. Wendell by Arrested Development" In my opinion, this song sounds very out of place on Hot 104. Hopefully those 80's weekends won't be starting up anytime soon.
