Who Will Classic Hits 92.9 WBPM Hurt the Most ?

Classic Hits 92.9 WBPM is off to a great start. I like their very wide play list, playing some songs that haven't been heard much in years as well as the best of over a 30 year span. I can’t think of any station around here that has put it all in one place, except perhaps the early attempt at Mix 97.7 and even they didn't have a big playlist. In order to be successful they will have to hurt other stations by stealing listeners. Which ones will it be? I think Mix 97.7 WCZX (now that would be ironic) and Star 93.3 WBWZ are the prime candidates. Thoughts?

I don't think HUD will get hurt...they're more south and 92.9 can barely be heard in Pok. I'm thinking they could take a few listeners from a couple differnt stations...Lite, Mix, Star, even PDH. Too bad their signal is kind of weak though.

This station needs to find it's way to radios in homes and offices with somewhat decent reception to even have a chance. Many of the local stations could experience a hit if this happens.

Does anyone know of any stations with weak signals (in the markets they serve) that do well in the raitings?

I don't think any of the AC's get hurt by this albatross. This station seems to be more male-driven; AC targets women. How can it hurt anybody when it's so poorly focused? You have to be good to do damage.

IMO this station is sort of a cross between WPDH and WHUD. I'm guessing they are trying to appeal to both sexes.

How can it hurt anybody when it's so poorly focused? You have to be good to do damage.

You say poorly focused... I say larger music library. Being an XM radio subscriber, WCBS FM and now WBPM are the only two stations I can tolerate for more than a few minutes.

BPM actually has a pretty good signal, it's just not really a Poughkeepsie station. Home turf is Ulster Co. and they should do well in Northern Dutchess, Greene and Columbia. I don't think they'll do major damage but formatically they should be P2 (second choice) for most adult formats. If BPM takes a few tenths away from PDH, K104 become the number one 25-54 station in Poughkeepsie. The TSA damage to PDH could be more significant.

Since WHUD and WBPM are both owned by Pamal, there should be no threat either way, provided whoever programs 'BPM has enough brains to figure this out. That Dead spot has to go; already talked to one listener who turned it off because of it. Other than that, the music mix is right on the money. The clowns on pendel road should be paying attention to this. Whats the Jock lineup?? jack hammer on AM drive, not sure who else is live....

Spring book should be interesting; this market sure needs a shakeup and this might be it. Oldies format is up for grabs once again; anybody who wants it can step up to the plate;D.....anyone care to guess as to who might grab it and run??? And lets not get into the crap that oldies is dead....there's a niche for it here!!!

WHVW 950am has a great oldies show (50's and 60's) from 6-9 am; they go deep and you can request/ dedicate any time....they should program this 24/7...

The more I listen, the more I believe WPDH will see the largest hit. Maybe it's Randy's way if sticking it to the morons on Pendell Rd.

What are you listening to WHVW on, a tinfoil hat? Christ... thats the STRONGEST signal in Hyde Park.

I agree with everyone else that has commented. I have XM radio as well, but I periodically listen to radio in the Valley, and this is probably by far one of the best stations in the market. If they keep their playlist this diverse, people that are sick of the Lite FM repetition will migrate. The one area that Cool 92.9 failed was promotion... I don't remember ever seeing a billboard or any advertisements whatsoever. So, hopefully Pamal will get the word out. 92.1 WRNQ's signal in Kingston is weaker than BPM's, so maybe offices will have no problem switching to a local signal.

I've been listening quite often over the last 2 weeks or so. I cannot recall hearing a repeated song during that time frame.

Unlike Lite FM and that dreaded 'you had a bad day' song I hear every single time someone tunes in for more than 5 minutes.

Not only have I heard only very few repeats, and I know this can’t last, but even during drive time, there is only one commercial break per hour!
