Who Will Fill Alex Trebek's Shoes On "Jeopardy!"?

The last intelligent game show left on broadcast TV....I'd hate to see it go. I am sure that with the ratings it gets, it won't leave for a while.

I have said this before---nobody, even Art Fleming, could "clear the board" like Alex does. And that, with added commercial time over the years!

It'll be a tough two shoes to fill, whomever is chosen.

I'm shocked no one has mentioned Jeff Probst, who did Rock & Roll Jeopardy! on VH1 back in the day. Having had some experience with the format, he should be considered.

Whomever is the replacement the format should be expanded to one hour and the pace of the quiz slowed so that we have a better idea of the contestants. I quit watching years ago because it is wrapped so tight nothing but the questions/answers get through. Having a host with a bit more time to ad hoc would be a blessing.

I think the torch will carried over to Jeff when Alex steps down as host and retire. Jeff really did had his own talk show this past TV season, and apparently it couldn't find its audience and it did fail. I think this happens to a golden opportunity for Jeff, and he is well-groomed for this job.

"Jeopardy!" is safer in its current format than the one you suggested. Your idea reminded me of ABC's first version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" (before "Super Millionaire" and the 10th anniversary version) expanding from having a regular timeslot of 30 minutes to a regular timeslot of 60 minutes, which I believe had a negative effect on its ratings over time. The current syndicated version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" always had a regular timeslot of 30 minutes and stayed in production longer than ABC's first version.

Never happen. The show is bundled with Wheel of Fortune into a one-hour package in access time that makes a ton of money.

How about Todd Newton?

Todd was an excellent choice to host The Price is Right but Drew Carey beats him to a punch. Since Drew currently hosts TPIR, he really did run that show down to the ground, Replacing Rich Fields as its announcer with George Gray. Fields was the lone holdover from The Bob Barker Era on TPIR. And Today, Fields still works as the weatherman/traffic reporter for K-CAL 9, A CBS-Owned Indy station in L.A.

As far as Todd goes, He's very happy working on The Hub's Game Show Night, which happens to be an Emmy Award-Winner.

Should be "Family Game Night" for the Hub show with Todd Newton. He seems to be going well with the show.

I think Alex will probably keep going for several more years, Bob Barker went to 83 before he retired off TPIR...

Which would garner the question: "How's your mother, Trebek?". Now that was some funny stuff! :D

Alex has hosted the syndicated version for 29 years or close to it. By May, he should be in Carson territory. :)

Pat and Vanna are already into Season 30, and still breezin' along! I do think that it's a shame, though, that they are ignoring the daytime run in Wheel's history.

Agreed with others here, Jeopardy needs to stay at 30 minutes. As for host, Matt Lauer would be a major risk. His public perception is not strong right now. Anderson Cooper would be better, but I think he is above this job.

Remember, we are talking still a couple of years away, and there is plenty of time to find the "perfect host" for Jeopardy. That being said, never go against the grain. Find someone who is similar to Trebek, yet offering some new energy. Perhaps that person isn't even known by many right now.

If Lauer WERE to fill Trebek's shoes, any controversy he ever had would evaporate in good time. Their ratings would improve as any show does with a new host- and who knows? He may be a natural.

Off topic but does Trebek still live with his mother?

I was wondering if Pat & Vanna have any plans for retirement at any moment now? Alex is 72, and he's still keeps going like that old Energizer Bunny; Alex has plans to step down in the year 2016 as the host of Jeopardy. How old are Pat & Vanna? I think Pat would love to replace Vanna with his wife.

If I were Pat, I would have long ago replaced my wife with Vanna! ;D

For what it's worth, Sajak is in his mid-60s (about 66); Vanna is ten years younger.
