How 'bout Tom Kennedy, who--I believe--is in Real Estate in Sonoma County (CA)?
 
Dr. Don Sainte John has been settled at V-101 in Sacramento and is happy.

Sue Hall is now established at the Wolf.

None of the others seem to jump out that they would want to or should come back to San Francisco.

I would expect that Tim Jordan would be more inclined to pursue personalities like Jack Friday, Eric Chase and maybe John Mac Flannagan.

In fact I know personally that when Christopher Lance resigned KFRC in August of 05 he not only left the station on very good terms, he also left on very good terms with Tim Jordon as well. Chris still cooks on the air so he would be a strong addition.

However there are certainly other personalities that have not worked for KFRC that would be excellant on the air. Just becasue they may not have been on KFRC does not make a personality any less desireable. There are a lot of new listeners that were not around to hear KFRC in its heyday.

Not funny...

A couple of of (perhaps) off-the-wall suggestions. KFRC had a few eccentric late-night weekend shows in the 90s, and it might be good to bring them back - either weekdays or weekends: Tom Benner did a good weekend late night show at KFRC for a number of years. Maybe he's tired of being "Officer Vic" on KSFO. Candi Chamberlain had a rather bizarre but funny show, and might be interested in coming back to radio. Somebody else suggested Joe Ike
 
1997, overnites was JJ Stone, quite an interesting, funny guy, or another guy would be Sal Casteneda from KTVU he was great on Live 105 in the 90s
 
Marcos Gutierrez (I hope I spelled his last name right) from "KSFX DISCO 104" afternoon drive would be a good dj he had a way smooth spanish accent to get you motivated and moving.
Bob Landry from KLIV. Afternoon guy from around 1980 he was a nut that made it happen.
and don't forget the weekend fill-ins in bay area radio where some on best and had some great voices too.

Marcos was very good - also did afternoon drive on 107.7 KSOL in the late 80s, before it went "Wild." He was also very good on camera - I remember he anchored a late night Sunday night public service show on KPIX in the 70s for the Latino community, either right before or right after the Rev. Cecil Williams' show. He would do a story for a couple of minutes in English, then repeat what he had said in Spanish. Kind of odd...but he did it well.

Some of the dj's mentioned--all are great talents--bring baggage to the table. A corporate-clean entity like CBS isn't likely to take a chance on such an employee. The hiring practices have changed drastically since the "old days"--companies offer "lite" salaries, demand more (no more 3 or 4 hour shifts and you go home, it’s the day of multi-tasking), tolerate less and are high on intellectual assessments, along with drug tests.

Having said that, if they select from the list provided by noname, CBS--in my opinion--cannot go wrong. But please, no Cammy!!!

What about Rich Ransom? Anyone remember him from KMEL in the late 80's/early 90's? He was more KFRC-ish than KMEL-ish.

Where is he now?

Do all these posts for the last 2 months cry for what I've harped on in the past?.....We need personality radio, not music radio...You want music, crank up your IPOD, CD, MP3...The cry is out for people who are entertaining. I really hope the industry gets back to being adult, relying on humor, entertainment, and rye senses of humor...Man, to have someone challenge my brain a bit...and not in a "talk radio" sense...just some humor, levity, poke-fun-at stuff...it's the difference between " I Love Lucy" and "Arrested Development"...don't insult my intelligence, challenge it...amuse it..let me have that "knowing smile" on my face...McGovern, Sorkin, Sherwood, Carter B Smith...intelligent characters who made Bay Area radio enjoyable and something I wanted to emulate when I got into radio...Who is on now that you would say, " If I could do this, I'd like to be like him"?..." Who on now reflects my sense of humor"?...If it's Stern or Mancow or pick a "Zoo", God help us...Crude ain't original...you use insults and 4 letter words because your intelligence and creativity is limited and unfocused...Oh for the guys who spend hours coming up with their "ad-libs"....Do these true "personalities" still exist? (Armstrong & Getty)...If not, hello IPOD, CD, & MP3.." All my favorite hits..ALL THE TIME !!!"

Yes, when radio history is written Armstrong & Getty will go down as better than Stern. (Is there a sarcasm thing here?)
 
So for anyone who may care, here would be my ideal lineup. Keep in mind, I am looking into my past and taking memories of being a 14 year old kid, but here goes:

Mornings - Bill Lee - The funny Bill Lee, not the current version
Mid-Day - I guess if Dave Sholin is on board....OK, but I don't remember him being much of a jock. I'd go with John Mack or Tom Parker
Afternoons - Bobby Ocean, period
Nights - Jack Armstrong
Overnights - Don St John

Weekends - Anyone other than Marcos and Bob Gowa
 
Get former jock at KBAY, Bob Koltz (sp?), back on the air to KFRC.
 
KBAY?! Unless they can beyond a shadow of a doubt prove their dire need to feed a family, anyone who ever worked for a lite-rock station like KBAY should be excluded!

The other thing I think we should remember, what was popular here music-wise was not the Top 40. This was never a Fleetwood Mac town. What they should do is go back and bring out the charts for record sales here for the era they are targeting, not the Billboard charts.

Acts like Brothers Johnson (beyong Strawberry Letter 23), EWF's album cuts, Commodores soul chart hits, Sylvester, Funkadelic were all huge here but not elsewhere. It seems like these "oldies" stations that play classic-type hits are basing playlists on the nationwide charts pretending we are in Cleveland. Even with a great lineup and a stamp of approval by the radio geeks here, the research gurus will screw it up.
