Who will fill the Smooth Jazz format hole?

Once again Emmis has given up a heritage position in one of the country's largest market for the hope of something better (Jam'n in LA).
Smooth Jazz is still making good money with low overhead in Miami, Chicago and LA.

What your best guess on who will change formats first to fill the void?

I wouldn't count on anyone... I am in market #5 (Dallas/Fort Worth) and we lost Smooth Jazz 107.5 "The Oasis" in October of 2006. It was replaced by the MOViN' format. So far, nobody has stepped up to provide smooth jazz to a market that had a smooth jazz station consistently in the top 10 for 18 years. ???

106.1 WJJZ (Smooth Jazz) in Philadelphia flipped to My 106.1 (80's 90's dance). 97.5 (The Hawk) in Trenton quickly flipped to smooth Jazz and got the old WJJZ call letters back. They even got approved to more the transmitter to Philly from the Trenton area. They are doing ok, but not nearly as well as when the format was on 106.1.

WXRK, WPLJ or WKTU should flip to smooth jazz.

WPLJ bills more than double what WQCD was doing, and so does WKTU. WXRK bills a tiny bit more than WQCD, so changing format would cause them to lose a lot of billing until they have several books with good numbers to replace what they have.

All three have much more desirable demographics than WQCD did.

That format is a failure in most markets these days...

I think they would want to get more bang for the buck on that frequency than putting on smooth jazz, with its aging demos and low billing.
