WHO WILL GO ALL-CHRISTMAS FIRST? WODS OR WROR?

Okay, here's the million dollar question-who will go all Christmas Music first? WODS or WROR?
I'll bet you that WODS will go all Christmas music at midnight this Saturday night!
WROR will go all Christmas music on Monday November 2nd. at 6 a.m.(or earlier).

I remember the morning after Halloween 2000 when the Music Choice Sounds Of The Seasons channel went directly from Halloween music to Christmas music at 7 a.m. Eastern time. (The last Halloween song they played was "My Son The Vampire" by Allan Sherman, and the first Christmas song they played was "Christmas(Baby Please Come Home" by Mariah Carey.)

Or...will a station in New Hampshire, Worcester, Cape Cod or Rhode Island jump the gun?

When it come to radio........ITS THAT AWFUL TIME OF THE YEAR !!!!!!!!

What if Magic went Christmas? I know their experiment in 2005(?) didn't get good feedback from listeners, but you never know.

It seems WROR has jumped the gun the last few years, never by more then a day or two though.

Does WFNQ in Nashua do Christmas music? I forget if they did last year. Doubt it.

ALSO, could we be seeing Holiday Music popping up on HD-2's this year??? Possibly Magic putting Holiday music on HD-2?

Personal sidenote: I can't wait, this happens once a year and it excites me like a little kid again :) (fix the emoticons radio info!)

Does anybody really care??

I'll be honest, I actually look forward to the non-stop Christmas music......AT FIRST, because it's a change from the already boring repetitive music being played on most stations. However, after a few days, or a couple of weeks the Christmas music quickly gets boring and repetitive, so then I try to find a close alternative to the regular music station I like, but it also listen to news and talk radio, so that is always there. Last year was rough. 103.3 WODS, my favorite local music station, made the switch in early November last year. Let's see. 105.7 WROR did the same. B101 (101.5) soon did the same, and Lite Rock 105 (105.1) soon after that. Two all Christmas stations in Boston, and two in Providence. So.....what was I left with for music? 790 WPRV when it was True Oldies. Also there was Fun 107 (107.1) which I like for newer dance music. Other than that, 630 WPRO and 1030 WBZ. But that's when I'm in the car. When I'm home, there is the wonderful internet, and I can hear Magic 92.5 in San Diego, my favorite online station, plus many others, so the only time I am restricted to music choice, is in the car. Even when the Christmas music first begins and sounds new and fresh to me, I still switch to my alternate stations occasionally. I like Christmas music from time to time in the holiday season, especially close to the holiday, but not non-stop all the time for almost two months. I can imagine some DJs in stations that go all Christmas are soon turning down the in studio monitor speakers on some songs after a few days. Honestly, having to play non-stop Christmas music for almost two months, I would go insane without turning the monitor down on some songs. Think about it, an even shorter playlist than the already short playlist that most stations have in their regular format. They're coming to take me away HA HA, they're coming to take me away HA HA HO HO HE HE! HO HO? OH NO, I see the men in white coats now. ;D

Christmas is canceled this year.
The retail "season" might be though.
The vibes are bad. I think flipping before Thanksgiving won't work in '09. As for a flip next week, I haven't even raked any leaves yet. My guess is L&W will get it started, Wednesday?

Didn't we just do a thread like this two weeks ago??

I happened to be listening to WODS very briefly this afternoon and heard a voiceover (right after about 2 seconds of Jingle Bells) saying 'Nope, not yet'. but that the Christmas music is playing 24/7 at WODS.com.

WROR will flip first on Monday Nov 2nd at 5:30 am because that's when Loren and Wally and the morning show start.

WODS will flip Monday at 6am when their morning show comes on.

Magic has not gone full-tilt for a few years now. They won't flip until a few days before Christmas at most.

WSRS/Worcester will not flip until sometime after Thanksgiving.

Worcester's Oldies 98-9, The Pike, and WXLO will not flip until Christmas Eve.

Okay, here's my thinking on this. I think that both stations are "ready to go". I think this year that they might be waiting for the other to jump and as soon as they do, less than a few minutes later the other will jump. That being said, I think if no one jumps before Thursday, November 5 someone will and probably around 6:00 a.m. That's my guess. I actually hope that one of them, probably 'ROR, decides not to jump. Since the stations are so similar in format, that leaves a format void in the area.

I hate not hearing the "classics" that aren't traditional like "Father Christmas" by The Kinks and "Santa Claus & His Old Lady" by Cheech & Chong. ZLX used to sprinkle them in but now won't play anything hoping to catch listeners who don't want to hear anything "holiday."

Playing Christmas music on Christmas eve into Christmas Day is hardly a "flip."

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

In my non-radio opinion, breaking format to play nothing but Christmas music, regardless of the length of time, is a flip.

My idea would have ROR pretend to flip then once ODS picks up say "This was just a preview" back to regular music but we will flip on November 27th.

Ugh, time to take WODS and WROR off the pre-sets. I understand the appeal here to a point, but I don't think too many people want to hear wall-to-wall Christmas music until just a few days before the 25th. It would make more sense to pepper in holiday favorites as Christmas draws closer. Start with 1 holiday song per hour and ramp it up to 3/4 holiday tunes a week or two out - then go all-Christmas about 7-10 days before the actual day. Why completely abandon the classic hits that contribute to your ratings for 11 months a year, only to drop Christmas music before Christmas day is even over?
