WHO WILL GO ALL-CHRISTMAS FIRST? WODS OR WROR?

Looks like they saw this post, and posted on the front page that this is when the flips happened... not the case. According to yes.com, WODS started at 12:05, ROR at 12:24.

So, essentially Oldies 103 went first at the top of the 12:00 hour, then people notified WROR, who then scrambled to punch up the Christmas tunes on their automation system so that there would be virtually no difference in timing. Although WROR was 19 minutes late. I tend to think, however, that Oldies must have played a song before 12:05 as their first Christmas song--maybe the Boston Pops "Sleigh Ride," that yes.com didn't detect. (Yes.com is often times flawed).

Did either station announce before-hand that they would? Did they do anything special to launch it? I know that WODS has had Santa in the studio in years past.

No, if one had announced it, the other would have immediately flipped to beat them.

That was WROR that had Santa (Paul Perry) in the past. They're saying that they're going to do it once again this year. Does this mean that the Doyle & Devereau show is actually live, or maybe it just will be for a couple hours a night from now until Christmas?

So for WODS, is Tom Kent doing a Christmas show for them or are they airing his regular show or are they dropping him for a few weeks like they did last year? I believe Patrick Callahan was back for nights (7-midnight) for the Christmas flip last year.

thanks for the heads-up... and to think I was outside in shorts in 70 degree weather a few days ago...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't ROR play all-Christmas music in July ("Christmas In July") for a day or two last year (or was it two years ago) ?

According to Yes.com, this is how they transitioned:

WODS——
# The Spinners - I'll Be Around 13.11.2009 11:47am
# The Monkees - Daydream Believer 13.11.2009 11:56am
# Chicago - Feelin' Stronger Every Day 13.11.2009 11:59am
-----
# Andy Williams - Happy Holidays 13.11.2009 12:05pm
# Bobby Helms - Jingle Bell Rock 13.11.2009 12:10pm
# Natalie Cole & Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On
An Open Fire) 13.11.2009 12:16pm

WROR——
# The Police - Every Breath You Take 13.11.2009 12:08pm
# The Eagles - Take It Easy 13.11.2009 12:12pm
# Queen - You're My Best Friend 13.11.2009 12:15pm
-----
# John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) 13.11.2009 12:24pm
# Andy Williams - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year 13.11.2009 12:45pm
# The Drifters - White Christmas 13.11.2009 12:47pm

So, I'd say 'ODS went directly from Chicago to Williams, while 'ROR went from
Queen to a break, then to Lennon.

Mighty Mike was on last night.

Looks like WODS updated their website's "personalities" page in the last day or two.

Some bio pics are the same (Karen and Zito, Paula, Mike O'Reilly) while others look updated (JJ Wright, Patrick Callahan).

Uncle Dale is still pictured even though he is apparently gone.

Neil White is pictured for the very first time that I know of.

Scott Roberts (who I either never heard on WODS or haven't heard in a very very long time) is gone.

The woman whose name I can't recall (Judy?) from the weekend crew is gone.

Jay Gordon is still listed but his pic and bio are missing.

Mighty Mike Osborne is listed but his late great Saturday Night 70s show (which has been gone for awhile) is no longer mentioned and his picture which was never there anyway is still not there. How difficult can it be to get a picture of a guy who's been broadcasting in southern New England for 25 years? The gave General Hospital updates (at 4:10 and 10:50) back in the early to mid 80s and they can't get a picture of him? ;) Who does he think he is, David Allan Boucher? ;D They have a picture of a dead guy (Wolfman Jack) but they can't find a picture of Mighty Mike? :D

More bio picture updates on WODS.com.

Paula's pic is new.

Some guy named Brett Richards has been added to the weekend crew. I'm not familiar with him.

Casey Kasem's pic has been added but he looks about 40 in the picture.

Barry Scott and Mike O'Reilly still not updated.

Mighty Mike and Jay Gordon still have no pictures.

Wolfman Jack is still dead.

And this concludes this episode of As The WODS Bio Page Turns.

Tune in next week when......... :D

Scott Roberts (who I either never heard on WODS or haven't heard in a very very long time) is gone.
He was good. I think he did weekend overnights 11-4. I'd guess he's been gone since Christmas '08?

Scott did weekend overnights and other fill-ins there since the early '90s.

Before that, he did morning drive on 1150 WMEX and evenings on 105.7 WVBF in the '80s, and probably others.

Judy Pancoast.

They have both been doing board-op there fairly recently, though no longer (regular) air shifts.

They've been filling weeknight overnights and some other off-peak hours with jockless music lately (but with board-ops, not automated).

I heard somewhere that WODS is not going back to oldies after the holidays. I don't know if it's true or not though.

That rumor circulates every year at holiday time.

They aren't "oldies" anymore anyway, they dropped that word earlier this year. So, assuming they go back to the format they were doing before the holiday music, it already was no longer "oldies".

They're already promoting that they'll be doing a Top 500 countdown again starting Saturday morning at 6. I highly doubt they'll be changing format.

Another question to ask is: Will they flip back at midnight on 12/26, or will they wait a few days? I know that a few stations have remained all-Christmas until the 28th or the 29th. Because I know some still consider that to be "Christmas Time."

just started my own consumption of the genre

90.5 WICN does it best, so far. altho WMFO had a pretty insane selection of xmas music a couple weeks ago
