They have both been doing board-op there fairly recently, though no longer (regular) air shifts.

They've been filling weeknight overnights and some other off-peak hours with jockless music lately (but with board-ops, not automated).

That's just bizarre. It's a shame that they're not allowed to crack open the mics, since they obviously have what it takes to do so...

I'm not listening to WODS but I happened to check their website. Jay Gordon has a new pic and is listed on the front page as being on-air right now. Anyone listening? Is he a holiday fillin or is he hosting some sort of late-night Elvis Christmas show?

this seems as good a place as any to shamelessly promote my Holiday webcast with a slightly different playlist, although I do have Chuck Berry, the Ventures, Santo and Johnny and The Sonics on there...

I also archive my shows at http://sonicoverload.blogspot.com

... no more p*mpin' until the 10th anniversary show in March. Promise!

Happy holidays

Just checked the websites of WROR and WODS (as well as WSRS/Worcester and Oldies 98-9/Webster-Worcester) and as of 8:55pm on Christmas night, everyone is still playing Christmas music.

Mix 104-1 is back to regular programming (Back to the 80s with Joe Cortese). I happened to hear Dierdra (I think it was her) mention back on Wednesday that they'd be playing Christmas music from about 6pm Christmas Eve through noon or so on Christmas Day.

Worcester's 100FM The Pike is at regular programming. On Thursday afternoon, about 4pm, I heard Frank Foley mention that they would be going all-Christmas at 6pm when he left and it would last through some point on Christmas Day. They never did that but they did sprinkle in occasional Christmas music.

It's almost over folks, until next mid-October when someone starts a 2010 thread. Merry Christmas. ;D

Christmas is now officially over, but it would appear that WROR is still playing Christmas music, as of 12:20 AM on December 26. You think they'll continue for the next few days? I hope not. I also noticed that WLTW in NYC and WMGS in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre are still playing Christmas as well.

Along with ROR,did a quick check and only found 91.1 --Dartmouth?-- still going X-mas.
Inexplicably ODS closed with "Dominic" (I'd successfully avoided hearing it for the last 6 weeks) and led off at Mid. with KC&SB's Shake-shake-shake...
I listened very little this season, almost nothing. Didn't hear Wrapping Xmas, I like The Waitresses... maybe next year.

Looks like Oldies 98-9 finished up at midnight with Frosty the Snowman by the Jackson 5 and then went into Dirty Water by The Standells.

WODS is now back to regular programming. I'm assuming it switched at midnight.

WSRS seems to have switched as well. I think they had Delilah until midnight and then made the switch.

WROR JUST made the switch. They had Mariah Carey/All I Want For Christmas at 12:58am and then went to Roy Orbison/Pretty Paper at 1:02am.

I'm officially declaring the 2009 Christmas music season officially over. Oh crap, I just updated the Songs Played on their website and now they are playing Oh Come All Ye Faithful. ???

Someone else can keep checking, I'm off to bed. ;D

I couldn't believe all the Christmas Stations yesterday I was picking up from all over the place in Southington, Connecticut (some of course were non-stop for the past 6-8 weeks)

Massachusetts:

560 WHYN, 580 WTAG, 93.1 WHYN-FM, 94.7 WMAS, 97.9 WPKX.

New York (incl. upstate and Long Island):

710 WOR, 770 WABC, 810 WGY, 97.5 WALK-FM

Connecticut:

600 WICC, 1080 WTIC 1150 WMRD*, 1220 WQUN, 1320 WATR, 1530 WDJZ**, 92.5 WWYZ***, 98.3 WILI-FM, 99.9 WEZN, 100.5 WRCH, 102.9 WDRC-FM, 105.9 WHCN, 107.9 WEBE

*WMRD didn't start til 11AM. Prior to 11AM they were running a church mass in a Foreign Language.
**WDJZ a Caribbean-oriented mostly religious station was playing a mixture or Secular Christmas Tunes and Caribbean Versions.
***WWYZ a Country station was playing a mix of Secular Christmas Tunes and Country Versions.

I also heard Christmas tunes on some of the college stations.

Rhode Island:

630 WPRO, 920 WHJJ

The websites for WROR and WODS still have a holiday theme but it isn't New Year's yet...last song played at 9:17 am or so was Sat in the Park/Chicago on WROR and It's the Same Old Song/Four Tops on WODS

I think WBOQ went all Christmas for Christmas Day maybe Christmas Eve as well

I've stated for many years that this is a great idea. Also, mixing winter season songs into the rotation even into Feb. would be a good idea; songs w/ no mention of Christmas, such as "Let it snow", etc...

I think a number of people around here might share my feeling of being sick of snow (shoveling, etc...) by February and may not want to hear about more of it on the radio by then.

The Lost 45s returns

Barry Scott and The Lost 45s returns tonight to WODS from 7-midnight. And his website is promising BIG changes to the show for 2010. But ya gotta be a member of The Club to find out by email. I joined. Maybe I'll find out. Maybe I'll post it here. Unless Barry yells at me or something. ;) ;D

Here in Connecticut, WDRC-FM is including its Christmas songs in the annual "Big D, A to Z" music-library blowout. Yep, "Do I Do," "Do It Again," (Beach Boys) "Do It Again," (Steely Dan), "Do It Til You're Satisfied," "Do That to Me One More Time," "Do They Know It's Christmas," "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," "Do Ya".... I'm afraid "Dominick the Donkey" isn't far off. The whole thing should be over in 10 or 11 days (It ran for just over eight last year, but adding '80s and Christmas titles have bloated it considerably.), and the Christmas tunes will be rested until next day-after-Thanksgiving.

Just so you guys know, there are some stations in the country that are STILL playing all Christmas music! Warm 101.3 in Rochester, NY said that it will continue on there until January 4! I've never heard of that before.
