WHO WILL GO ALL-CHRISTMAS FIRST? WODS OR WROR?

And guess who went Christmas first? WROR-FM at 8:11 a.m. yesterday, and WODS went 11 minutes later. Fortunately, with the internet, I've got more than enough to keep me going! Also, I'll be getting some exercise through the holidays so it'll be really great!

Flip back one page, that was already mentioned. Gotta keep up with the conversation, even if the thread started a year ago. :p ;D

When I noticed that hadn't flipped yet after Veteran's Day I thought they had come to their senses and waited till the 26th.

Next year perhaps?

By the way, we gonna use this year old thread every year from now on?? ;D

The never ending Christmas thread :p Although it's easy to check previous years changeovers.

Like every other topic on this forum, "the dogs bark, and the caravan moves on."

Regards,
TSB

This kills me, I don't get the 24X7 Christmas Music need...at least mix it up! so 'ROR and 'ODS lose listeners like me until after the holidays, they don't care. Long live MP3 and take your barking dogs for a walk.....enough is enough.

They may lose listeners like you (and me), but WODS topped the Boston Arbitrons last winter, #1 12+, due to their Christmas format. They beat Kiss, WBZ, Jam'n, Magic, all the usual heavy hitters. WROR wasn't far behind. I don't listen to it much, but obviously a lot of people do.

Alot of stores play the Christmas Stations, and people with Portable People Meters may shop at the store or visit (for long periods of time too). Christmas Music is a very demographically blind format, it attracts all kinds of people unlike some other formats, so the Christmas stations seem to be played in many public places. I was even at a hockey rink in Everett and WODS was being played in the Snack Shop. I think the PPM is a flawed system (however it is a big improvement from the Diary) that only attracts a select few people who are extremely enthusiastic about radio, therefore not being accurate, however this is how christmas stations rate well in PPM.

Last year Oldies 98.9 in Worcester was all Christmas music from Thanksgiving on. But as of
this weekend, I've only heard an occasional holiday song, perhaps just one per airshift.
That approach works fine for me. I would imagine they would add a few more each week as
Christmas nears.

That's the approach oldies/classic hits WDRC-FM Hartford takes. The holiday library is always rolled out the weekend after Thanksgiving.

This thread has a life of its' own, or at least one would think so. The bottom line is that the Christmas format from early November through December 26th is here to stay. It's becoming a way of life, a tradition as you may say. Somebody in sales hit it right on the head. Like Turner runs 24 hours of "A Christmas Story" every year (which I personally love), the 7 weeks of Christmas music in lieu of the normal format has become a way of life. Grin and bear it, this ain't going away. Much as I don't like 7 weeks of wall-to-wall Christmas music, it has its' following. So, in this "high tech" world with instant entertainment on every platform, the Christmas format is making $$$$$$$+. Hopefully, we can put this poor thread to bed for good (yeah, fat chance of that!). Yes, Virginia..... there will be another Christmas station come next November. Ho, ho, ho and Merry Christmas everyone!

i personally enjo the xmas music myself, but one would think they would switch back at 6pm instead of midnight to really ease into it!! and i have a feeling next yr this thread will reappear!!!!

You know something "'BZ-FM", I think you're right. It's not IF this thread lives on, rather... WHEN?!?!? Wishful thinking on my behalf. One can only dream, can't they? ;)
