Who will go Christmas this year?

After seeing Christmas threads in other boards already, I figured why not?

About WTRY... with a new competitor in WPTR, would you really want to lose all your loyal listeners that do not want all Christmas 24/7 to your competitor? If I were Clear Channel, I'd probably flip WRVE instead due to it's 50 kW signal and somewhat compatible format... or maybe WKKF if they were planning to tweak their format/branding :)

What about WYJB? This station is one of the few ACs that still doesn't go all-Christmas, and their sister station WROW moved from FM 100.9 to AM 590 (and still kept all-Christmas in 2010)... could 2011 be the first year WYJB goes Christmas? It'd be a smart move, at least IMO...

I agree. Christmas programming impacts the Fall ratings period in a positive way for AC radio stations. In my opinion, once Magic was moved to AM, YJB should have picked up the Christmas moniker that next season.

Christmas programming clearly is a benefit. And for some regular listeners who don't embrace it ( very few in # I might add), they always come back after the holidays.

The Fall ratings are important. Why not do it?

Ok perhaps I am a scrooge. Nevertheless, although I understand sponsors love ‘all Christmas music’ to put listeners in the shopping mood, do people really want to listen to non-stop Christmas music for two or more months. I certainly don’t!

Year after year..market after market..the Fall Arbitron numbers prove the naysayers to be wrong. But year after year they come out of the wood work anyway. I agree that two months is too long but the Arbitron ratings end usually the second week of December. To get benefit in the #s, you really need to be in holiday mode for 3 or 4 weeks of the book. Thus why many flip BEFORE Thanksgiving. This of course is in diary markets that Albany is.

In The PPMs, the entire month of December is measured so stations can affiord to wait til Thanksgiving..UNLESS someone else jumps the gun, Unless you've built the reputation in a market of being the Christmas station (which in Albany..nobody has), first one in usually wins.

Seltzer: WTRY has been going Christmas since 2001, and WKLI went Christmas from 2005 to 2009... 105.7 used it as a stunt to get rid of the Buzz for Crush, and 104.9 used it as a stunt in 2004 to go from Love FM to Froggy :)

WROW going Christmas in 2010 was a bad move, at least IMO... should've flipped WYJB instead :)

Thanks for the info. How has TRY's ratings been with Christmas? Gold/Classic Hits don;t fare as well as AC;s who do it.
