Who will go Christmas?

With WNIC flipping to Fresh, I'm ruling that out of the equation, and I'm pretty sure Magic will still be going Christmas this year...

Could Doug or WOMC go Christmas this year? Either one would be a great choice for Christmas :)

Clear Channel usually puts holiday music on either an Oldies, mainstream AC, or Hot AC formats in markets whichever format they run in the market. So I venture to say Clear Channel is not done with putting holiday music on WNIC. If they don't play holiday music this year it will be a first.

There's no way WNIC doesn't go Christmas. They make more $$ during the Christmas season then ever!

Both WNIC and WMGC will do it and I predict WNIC will do it first. Considering the disaster which the change to 'Fresh' has been, I expect heavy promotion of the switch.

If Fresh was that big of a failure in the market, wonder if the 100.3 WNIC branding could be restored after Christmas? :) It is however getting more cume than WMGC, so it's a toss up as to whether the Fresh name stays or goes...

I suggested Doug solely because if Cumulus were to flip it to a country format to go after WYCD, WJR-FM or even a Journey, best time would be after Christmas music :p

WNIC has always gotten a lot more cume than WMGC, but the spread has narrowed since the change. I agree, the post Christmas switchback would be an ideal time to tweak the format.

We shall see.

Both WNIC and Magic will. It provides their strongest ratings each year.

I don't see a WWJ simulcast, nor do I think one is needed. 950 has great coverage over the entire area.

Magic 105.1 has officially become "Christmas Magic" (sometime around 5:20 est I think). The soft rock had moved to HD2 bumping off the Halloween playlist.

I love Christmas Music but this is way way too early!

I don't think this is a weekend stunt. I really do think this change signals a format change. It's really unfortunate.

I wonder if this means the end of mainstream AC in Detroit - unless WNIC reverts back to mainstream AC from Hot AC. I still don't like the fact that WNIC made the change to Hot AC.

Wonder what format 105.1 will consider... country? WYCD really could use some competition... either that or sports would be a great choice (believe it or not, there's no ESPN Radio affiliate in Detroit) :)

I see WNIC doing it tomorrow. Magic went before Halloween to beat them to the punch.

I still don't see a format flip coming. CHR and Hip-Hop are fully or overrepresented on the dial. One country station for this market is enough particularly when much of the market can pick up the one in A2. While WOMC has more or less become an AC station, WNIC's missteps make WMGC the default choice for that category. Any move away would perform worse than what they've got.

Is the station calling itself "Christmas Magic" or "Christmas 105.1"? Same imaging or different imaging as before (except for the Christmas references)?

A.J., I haven't been listening carefully, but I definitely heard them call themselves "Christmas 105.1" today. I haven't heard the term "Christmas Magic" used on the air.

No wall-to-wall Christmas music on WNIC as of this writing - in fact, no Christmas music being played at all - but they are promoting on their Facebook page that they do plan to go all-Christmas sometime during this month. Hopefully they wait until after Thanksgiving. Also, no Christmas yet on any of the other usual suspects in the nearby markets, like WRVF and WHNN, but I'm sure it's coming soon.

I'm happy to see that they're calling themselves "Christmas 105.1" as opposed to "Holiday 105.1" or something ridiculous like that.
