Who Will Replace Carr On WRKO ?

C

Casablanca

Any thought on who will replace Howie Carr when he leaves WRKO in September?

Will they go syndicated - cheap way out.

I could see them putting someone like Feinburg or even Avi Nelson in, at least for now. I don't think they'd
go syndie in pm drive. (In case of Feinburg, they could go syndie at 10 am with someone like G. Beck,
freeing up Todd for 3-7).
pm drive is important enough I'd think they'd keep it local. They could even do a "pinch hitter" deal for
now...just keep throwing on different people in pm drive and see what works.

Maybe hire someone from out of town who's in need of work (and would work cheap, etc.) Much like how
Graham was brought aboard WTKK in Nov of '05 after a 2 week tryout (Severin was kind of in limbo--
I did a web search and found that at that time,Jay was due to start the national show 2 months
later but his Boston affiliate was yet to be determined, though 'TKK had first dibs on him...
anyway, they hired Graham "just in case"...)

How about Marjorie Claprood? What is she doing now?

"The Anthony Spinazzola Foundation, which has been helping the homeless and supporting culinary education in the state for the past 22 years, announced yesterday it's closing its doors. Board chairman Chris Spinazzola said the decision was driven by several factors, including the health of his wife, Marjorie Clapprood, who suffers from leukemia and recently underwent a bone-marrow transplant. 'That's helped me realign my priorities in the last few months,' said Spinazzola. 'I've been doing [the foundation] for over two decades, and I just need to take a break and focus on my family and my business.'"

They must be trying to make some sort of plan to replace Howie in the event they they do not prevail in any one of the numerous court actions related to the contract issue. Since they have no weekend farm team or night talent they can draw from, it will have to be a new hire. God help us all because the talent that has been hired at Entercom in the past 2 years really sucks.

Any plans they have for a permanent replacement would have to be a closely held secret. If word got out that they had indeed offered someone a contract to take over PM drive, it would give Howie some leverage.

"Your Honor, Entercom has retained the services of Johnny Azzhat to do Mr. Carrs afternnon show, and Entercom has not made a counter offer to us that they are willing to give my client an AM drive slot on a FM station at the same money Greater Media has offered Mr. Carr. I ask for a summary judgment in our favor since Entercom's contract is contrary to Massachusetts law and they have failed to offer my client a contract, or match the offer of Greater Media."

I did not know that Marjorie was ill - am hearing that for the first time.
When she was a rep, she represented my original hometown. The woman
is a pistol - a live wire. Get well soon Margie!

Agreed re: Margie--thoughts and prayers for her good health.

As for replacing Howie, hey Ron Reagan Jr. is available! Let go by KIRO...though
KIRO is still Entercom I believe so the same folks wouldn't rehire him, I'd guess...

Not necessarily. I was let go by Entercom Boston, and am currently employed by Entercom KC. If the company sees inherent value in talent, they absolutely rehire. In fact, I retained my benefits as a 6, now 7 year employee. If RR jr.'s the right person for the gig, I can't see any reason why they wouldn't take a run at him.

I also add my thoughts for Ms Claprood and her family.

That's sad about Marjory. All that cigarette smoke is clearly coming back to haunt. I admit that I was never a big fan of her when she was on the radio or her demeanor when running for office, even though I tend to be liberal on most issues, but I will be praying for her recovery.

Had the pleasure of working with Marjorie Clapprood at the newWMEX 7 years ago. A real dynamo. If anyone can will herself back to health it is Marjorie. My prayers and thoughts are with her.
