Who Will Survive At WRKO ?

With the "Big Changes" coming at WRKO wonder who will stay and who will go?

Don't think that Howie Carr is sacrosanct.

Only real talent at the station on a daily basis is Scott Allen Miller.

Peter Blute could survive if they develop a better vehicle for him. For example, make him Chief Political Correspondent in the News Department.
Think it would be a mistake to let him go with all his political contacts.
Blute can open many doors and the station shouldn't close them on him

John DePetro - Never really fit in to the Boston market and mentally never left Rhode Island. Wish him well back in little ol' Rhoddy.

Rush??? His time has past but do the suits at Entercom have enough testicular fortitude [ thank you Gene Burns] to dump him.

Mike Savage aka Michael Weiner will stay for laughs.

New RKO Lineup

Keith Olbermann just noted that Mike Savage under his previous moniker started the Aluminum Foil scare years ago. Shades of Roy Masters.

OK, here's the new lineup for WRKO

6 - 10 AM Howard Stern - a deal with Sirius for this market and a few
other choice markets

10 AM - Noon Paul Sullivan

Noon - 3 PM The Gene Lavanchy Program

3 PM - 7 PM The Randi Rhodes Show
Finally, a magnetic personality on the air

7PM - 10 PM Jay Diamond

10 PM - Midnight Scott Allen Miller

Midnight - 6 AM Neggy Presents...

Re: New RKO Lineup

Told by one of Roy Master's affliates that he walked around with a knife in his leather boots. This is the man preaching peace and harmony...

Aluminum Foil scare? Are we going to run out of tin foil hats?

I don't think Sirius would offer that, but if they did Infinity would be paying through the nose for it. It would more likely be taped and cleaned up for playing a day later. SAM doing mornings solo.

> 10 AM - Noon Paul Sullivan

Jay Diamond and Bluto from 10-12. Maybe 9-12.

> Noon - 3 PM The Gene Lavanchy Program

I don't think anyone will listen to Lean Gene over BOR on 96.9. Rush is safe as long as WKOX is a little signal.

> 3 PM - 7 PM The Randi Rhodes Show

I can't see Carr going away for a liberal host. More likely than not he'll get a swift kick in the pants and turn it up a notch. WRKO is a conservative talk station, not a "fair and balanced" talk station. If Randi Rhodes gets that spot WTKK will dominate in afternoons.

> 7PM - 10 PM Jay Diamond

Savage likely won't be moved.

> 10 PM - Midnight Scott Allen Miller

The nighttime shows are fine, there's no need to change them.

Re: New RKO Lineup

You have to be kidding me to think that Entercom would want to have anything to do with Stern. The last thing they need is trouble with the FCC.

If you put Scotto on at night he leaves. With the Kel-tics at night that would give him little time on-air. He would work at WBZ at night but not at RKO whose signal is compromised at night.

As to John DePetro he was attacking Bob Lobel this morning during the cross over with Blute and Scotto. Something about having too much wine at a station wine tasting last night and said he felt like Lobel with ADD????
DePetro really knows how to build friends in this community. Pack him a lunch and send him back to Paluccaville.

WRKO Needs New Look

Hopefully "Big Changes" are really coming to WRKO.
I spin the dial between AM and FM all the time looking for interesting talk.
WRKO has been good for one sided talk but hasn't had opposing viewpoints for a long time. The shows that seem most interesting have both sides of a topic debated.

I think the perfect line-ups would put opposing hosts against each other and some liberal hosts on to create some fireworks. It sounds like WRKO is finally going to mix it up.

Progressive talk is at AM 680...in Memphis

Imagine tuning in to 680 and hearing Air America--Randi Rhodes, Jerry
Springer. In the bbq and blues capital that is Memphis (where I am now)
you don't have to imagine--that's where AAR is on the dial.

> Don't think that Howie Carr is sacrosanct.

As long as his ratings are OK

If he goes, replace with a local or Glenn Beck

Re: WRKO Needs New Look

Their ratings have gone up and up and up. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If you were in charge of the Red Sox would you dump Ortiz, Manny,
Schilling, Varitek...

Re: New RKO Lineup

She sounds so intelligent when she urges that the President be shot. Which she, or her show, has, twice.

WRKO Needs New Look To Improve Ratings

In major league baseball good players are traded all the time. I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan but the Yankees won as many World Series as they did by not taking the attitude that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

We both know that WRKO can improve its ratings and we both know that WRKO is missing a big audience in Democratic Mass. Competition is always knoking on the door if you want to stay competitive you need to stay in shape.

Why settle for a piece of the pie when you can have more a larger share?

Why improve a BMW every year with a better model?

Ratings can always be improved on.

Re: New RKO Lineup - Savage - Aluminum foil scare

Smoke, they were discussing the new Teflon scare - how Teflon may be hazardous to health. Olbermann (one of the favorite shows of all in this household)
mentioned that Savage, under his other pen name, had started a scare about
Aluminum Foil leading to alzheimers or something. Typical Savage shock jock stuff.

You make some good points here, Smoke; this was - of course - a parody -
but would Paul Sullivan make the jump from BZ to get a daytime show?

Lavanchy would be interesting on radio - he's so polite as opposed to Howie's
abrasive tendencies.

Teflon CORRECTION

Correctiion on the Teflon scare.
The headline did not make it clear but the body of the article said the final product or pan with Teflon is safe but the chemical that goes into making it if inhaled by those workers making the product can cause cancer.

Sloppy reporting by the rags.

NOT TRUE! RIGHT wing spin again.........

Reply:

710 KIRO 12+ ratings out today...down...and slowly declining 12+ ratings for quite some time...yes this is only 12+...but the station is close to the 12+ shares of its "competitors" (KOMO,KVI,KTTH). Might Entercom consider Diamond on KIRO somewhere in their schedule in an effort to improve ratings???

Perhaps Jay Diamond could be syndicated...with WRKO and KIRO as affiliates???

Any thoughts???

Re: New RKO Lineup

The wheel stops at $10000............................
Can I get an "R"?

There are two "R"s

HOWIE CARR!!!

"you got it, Right WING!"

New! Radio Equalizer: "Radio Shakeup in Seattle" - Entercom/KIRO/KTTH - Syndicate Diamond on 'RKO/KIRO

While not necessarily relevant the Boston board and Entercom's WRKO-AM, this post is relevant to Entercom's problems on the left coast with KIRO-AM:

In particular, the Radio Equalizer correctly points out:

"The station (KIRO-AM) gutted its news coverage, dropping the afternoon drive program and added market-untested talkers that didn't catch fire with the local audience...Most importantly, franchise host Dave Ross was uprooted from his longtime 9am-noon home and moved to afternoons. That has him competing directly with baseball broadcasts on KOMO..."

This, in my opinion, gives Entercom the chance to syndicate Jay Diamond M-F on KIRO-AM, WRKO-AM, and elsewhere...in order to solve multiple problems, that is, *IF* they are able to do so...I have no idea of the company's contractual obligations and other concerns...

Agree or disagree?

Re: New! Radio Equalizer: "Radio Shakeup in Seattle" - Entercom/KIRO/KTTH - Syndicate Diamond on 'RKO/KIRO

Interesting...btw Entercom use to have Howie Carr on their KIRO-FM 100.7 ("the Buzz") for awhile but later dropped him. These days HC is strictly in New England

Re: Progressive talk is at AM 680...in Memphis

And they're owned by Entercom, too. BTW I saw the Billboard on their website...
as I headed west on Poplar Ave.

12 + ratings for WWTQ? Er, they just dropped to almost half of what they
were last period. But the signal is quite strong throughout Greater Memphis.

Are you Jay's agent....Tom......i couldn't resist...and im totally kidding....!
Back to your question, its a great chance for Entercom to syndicate Jay...plus use him on 680 in the Memphis area.....theres a couple of Entercom properties down south - that Jay would be great morning or evening ...so you idea of syndicating Jay is a thought of value should the Entercom mgmt actually take the suggestion to heart
