who will take the hit

Obviously its gonna be MMR, RFF has its own unique sound and audiance, YSP is not after them, MMR and the stale predictable sound will take the hit. The relic will be forced to stop yakking about his glory days with Jerry G, Bob Weir and Hyman. Now lets hope YSP does not bring in those sex, male tetesterone, hopped up, skirt chasing morons. Just play the Rock and shut up, and easy on the sports, just do Eagles...thats more than enough.

Nobody is going to take any hits besides wysp they are going to lose a ton of listeners all 3 will play the same music besides wmmr classic rock songs they play occasionaly

In just a few hours, 94 WYSP regained the position of the Rock Leader in Philadelphia. Let's start the format change clock at 104.5 and watch WMMR begin it's age old cycle of self-mutilation by reacting to WYSP and copying their playlist ...again.

I hope your wrong, but you may have hit the nail right on the head.

I hope it does not cause 104.5 to react and jump ship, they are one of the best stations to come into play in ages. YSP is not including "oh wow" tunes which 104.5 plays, Flys, Screaming Trees, Nixons, New Order, and many others, so I would say MMR is their main target.

MMR is their main target, they have been attacking them by pointing out some of the lame songs MMr played during their A to Z. However, MMR has been a rock station since the creation of dirt in Philly, and will continue to be one. I have a feeling that even a slight dip in ratings at RFF will cause CC to spin the flip wheel yet again at frequency 104.5.

You guys are underestimating 104.5 and CC if you think they're going to react much.
A lot of listeners who were disappointed with YSP's flip to Talk a couple of years back are going to be skeptic about YSP's return to Rock. They won't be leaving MMR and 104.5 very quickly now that they've gotten comfortable with them.
Remember, this is not NYC where prior to K-Rock's return there was no real Rock station in town (aside from Classic Rock).
Listeners in Philly will be happy to know they now have another choice on the dial, but they won't necessariyl make it their top choice.
YSP will need a lot of time and patience to properly build itself back up, and to prove to people they're serious about being a Rock station.

I agree with the last postor. WYSP has its work cut out for itself.

WMMR will feel the effects most. 104.5 has made A LOT of friends, and really quickly. The few people I encounter who even give two damns about radio anymore really were annoyed at WYSP for dumping Rock (obviously non-radio people are oblivious to the corporate mandates we're all aware of).

WYSP has no anchor program to build a guaranteed base with. Two years ago Howard alone would have ensured the station's success. Now, aside from decent afternoon numbers with Kidd Chris, there's nothing. A good Eagles season will help, but not enough to make any real impression. WMMR is a train-wreck musically (Godsmack and John Cougar Mellencamp on the same station-- AOR is fine, but in 2007 that isn't), but Preston & Steve guarantee a good chunk of listeners will keep 93-3 on their presets.

Again, WYSP (again, aside from Kidd Chris who is good at what he does-- but the show doesn't have mass appeal) has nothing. And it appears the station isn't going for personality-intense jocks, having gotten rid of almost everyone on the station.

The biggest advantage gained from blowing the place up isn't the fact that it'll "do better ratingswise" (which it will), but more so comes from the money the company will be saving in salaries.

Ding ding ding! That sumps it pretty nicely.

Rocks fans will be (somewhat) happier with another Rock station in town, the company is happy b/c with PPM there's better/more reliable male participation in the ratings, and the station gets to cut "unnecessary" overhead.

Is this the thread where I post how dumb Radio One was for flipping Y100? We are missing one of those here.

Think about the market dynamic if they never flipped...YSP became a shell of itself and MMR would have no morning show. Y100 would be 10+ years old and by far the market leader in the PPM world.

Oh well.

MMR will continue to be lead dog like it or not - they have by far the best, most popular morning content. They will clearly win there in both ratings and rev over RFF and YSP there. Mid and PMD are going to be the 3 of them fighting over the scraps.

It's sort of like what the market was like back when YSP had Stern. Everyone else had to play catch-up in AMD and then battle over share in MID and PMD.

Sometimes radio is so silly.
