Who Wins The Bakersfield Christmas Battle?

KGFM
KSMJ
KBKO

I'd go with KGFM because they're the traditional home for it since KLITE left, they still have the best AC morning show, and I've at least seen TV commercials for them. KSMJ won't be far behind, though. They all flipped at basically the same time, although I think The Breeze was first.

How sad that Bakersfield has more than one station playing Christmas music.Yuck

The station with the chick on it that has always been on the morning show would have to be #1 since they have been doing it the longest. It's a soft rock station.

As for the other two,I don't know.Is one of the stations country?

After over 2 weeks of Christmas overload on 3 stations in Bakersfield...My takes:
1) KGFM may win by default as they've been doing it longer (though they say they are the "original" Christmas station in Bakersfield...didn't KKDJ do it a year before them?)
2) KSMJ may have alienated a few listeners by launching WAY too early. Besides, their processing is so horrible its almost unlistenable.
3) I wonder how much KBKO will pull from the other 2 Ho Ho Ho stations...but think they may pull in a few KUZZ loyalists who had nothing to listen to for holiday music. My question...isn't flipping to All-Christmas usually a ploy before a format change? Is it finally time for CC to stick a fork in KBKO in January?

FYI...head to head...KBKO actually sounds BETTER at Christmas than the other two. MUCH better imaging and song selection. And love having Ken back on the air...local works better than out of market!

I think KGFM will win because of heritage, and their morning show. Dean and Rachel always do well, and I think Brent Michaels just can't beat them.

As far as KSMJ, I think the processing thing is overrated. That's just something we pay attention to. To me, it's not unlistenable, it's just not as sharp as it should be, and it sounds so much quieter than other people on the dial. If HOT all of a sudden had horrible processing, would people switch to PLAY? Probably not, although they would complain. On the other hand, there may be something to the launching too early. They did go way too soon. But when KGFM flipped too, they were back on an even playing field so to speak.

It is nice to hear Kenn back on the radio, but I have to disagree with the song selection comment. They aren't even playing the same type of Christmas music, it's not really a comparison. They're playing some artists the other two can't touch... Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Sugarland, etc. As far as KBKO's traditional songs, they're the same ones KGFM and KSMJ are spinning. The imaging, though, you're right. 1000 times better than the other two.

Yes, it's overload, but I expected KSMJ to join the party this year. KBKO was a surprise. But KGFM will win because of heritage.
