Hearing car races on the radio is as exciting as watching paint dry. The idea of having the Ranger games on FM during the week and AM on the weekends is beyond stupid.

Why is it stupid?

Last time I looked, when the Rangers are on TV they can be on 4, 27 or FSN . Same for other sports. The Stars are on channel 27, 36, Versus and even NBC. People seem to find the game.

So again why is listening to games on the radio stupid?

It isn't. The argument was that running some games on KRLD-FM and others on KRLD-AM, is stupid.

Thanks that was my point. It is stupid to make people surf around to find a game. If this is acceptable, then why don't all radio stations change formats (games in this example) daily & have their listeners find the new station with their format again for that particular day. If corporate radio is trying to get listeners, the last thing you'd want to do is have the listener switch away.

Either carry the Rangers games or don't. I'd prefer to hear them on FM so, as one previous poster already mentioned, we could hear it in stereo. Guess on weekends it's back to AM mono. ???

Exactly... It's not just having the games in stereo that matters here. When you go from a 15K quality audio broadcast on weekdays, to a hiss filled 5K (or less) on weekends, it's just dumb. And don't get me started on HD, because that's a failed technology.

In order to HEAR the games in stereo, someone had to ORIGINATE them in stereo from the ballpark, stadium, etc. NOT the easiest thing to do, NOT cheap, and it takes a lot more than the average $8/hour "remote tech" dragging around a crate full of tangled wires and a cheap Mackie board is capable of. Yeah, it actually takes a BROADCAST ENGINEER...a term being thrown around rather loosely these days. Besides, as someone once said "We don't SELL stereo anyway." Any guess who might have said that? "Rangers in Stereo"? "Cowboys in Stereo"? Neither likely anymore!

Years ago I would have agreed that broadcasting any sports event in stereo, would take massive amounts of equipment, etc. But times have changed and technology has vastly improved. A simple Stereo Codec and a small mixer, is really all you'd need today. It's less about "selling" and more about doing something uniquly different without unloading serious amounts of money.

I think Lancer hit the nail on the head. Stupid is making your fans try to find you. When I think of legendary Cowboy broadcasts, I think of KVIL. When I think of the Stars, WBAP. ESPN has taken the Mavericks from KLIF because KLIF always did such a poor job and when I think of the Rangers, well, I don't think of the Rangers... But the point is, this IS stupid. The Cowboys, Rangers and Texas Motor Speedway are all about to find that out...the hard way.

Hell, I'm older-school than that! Rangers = WBAP (Risenhoover and Merrill.) Cowboys = KRLD (Glieber and Sham.) Stars? Aren't they a hockey team up in Minnesota? Mavs = yes, KLIF-570. But I have to admit that those were some pretty decent years in the Cowboys booth with Brad and Dale over KVIL. That was the last time there was some objective give-and-take about "America's Team" (and plenty of well-earned criticism from Dale.)

WBAP had the Mavericks from the beginning to 1994 or 1995 and then KLIF took over.

I take offense to return of bongo statement because I worked the board for the Mavericks Radio Network from 1997 to 1999, and I know I did a dang good job.
