Whoa! Bad Trend For KDFC-FM!!

Could "Max" move to KDFC-FM, so country would return to 95.7? Classical KDFC-FM ranks SIXTH PLACE outta the Frisco stations. Classical is more niche than oldies, BTW.

Can't see it happening. Country has *never* been a successful format in the Bay Area, so I can't see Bonneville switching KDFC. Besides, even though the trends are down, KDFC is still a money maker and one of the most successful commercial classical stations in the country. Also, these ratings are 12+ ... does anyone know how KDFC did 25-54 ?

Country has never done well in the bay area recently because it has been
programed the wrong way, but a solution to this problem has arrived in the
city in the last week and his name is Doug Harvill. Watch out you just might get country a whole lot sooner than you could even believe or thought possible!
Doug knows how to do country.

They just killed country on 95.7, so why would they move MAX over to 102.1 in order to do country again at 95.7?

The folks at Bonneville are smart enough that they wouldn't launch a format on one frequency, spend a bunch of money advertising it, then move it to another frequency so they can re-train listeners to go to the new dial spot ... and then do country on the frequency where just a few weeks ago they decided it wasn't working. That's a great leap of faith, Dutch.

Actually, I counted them at *seventh* in the Arbitrend behind KGO, KOIT, KMEL, KSFO, KCBS and KKSF. The last time KDFC had a 12+ book this "bad" was last Summer. And they rebounded (#3 overall) in the Fall book.

Your post could have been "Whoa! Bad Trend For KSOL/KSQL!!" That combo dropped farther than KDFC and have been slipping in the 12+ numbers since last Fall when they were #2 overall.

Edited by moderator to remove Arbitron ratings info. You know better than that, D.J.

Oh, and don't call it Frisco.

Bad Trend? 7th Place is really nothing to cry about...Classical placing in the Top 10 is a miracle...

I do, and I've had agreement with Arbitron to post Bay Area 12+ ratings (San Francisco and San Jose) on my site for ten years. The way in which I cited the change in KSOL/KSQL's ratings in my post is acceptable under Arbitron's rules, whether or not an agreement is in place.

Why yes it did as did KSAN, but I meant recently and should haven't used the word "Never". My goof.

Bill is right. KDFC isn't going anywhere with #7.

I remember KSAY 1010AM did country in the 50s & 60s for quite a while.

I'm sorry, D.J., but your agreement with Arbitron does not supercede Radio-Info's rules. I will continue to enforce those unless the owners (Lance) tell me otherwise. If you have questions, e-mail him, please.

Sorry, but you misread my post. I didn't say that my agreement superceded Radio-Info's rules, or that it was in effect on sites other than my own; my agreement has nothing to do with Radio-Info, and I can't post on this site what I can publish on my own site.

What I said was that Arbitron's own rules -- published on their website and pertaining to anyone, including members of the media or the general public -- state that the way in which I cited the ratings for KSOL/KSQL were acceptable in any forum.

I wasn't challenging your authority. I don't care if the numbers were edited out. My post still got its point across successfully.

So nyah-nyah-nyah!!! : )

{I know, next stop: total ban!)

Thanks for clarifying. I did interpret what you said differently.

Okay, then let me rephrase too. :) If Radio-Info goes beyond the Arbitron rules as a "playing it safe" measure, I'll still enforce the R-I version, as explained to me by the owners.

I try, when it is necessary to edit, to keep the meaning of a post intact. In fact, the point of editing was to preserve the value of the post, rather than just deleting it. (Technically, I'm supposed to delete, not edit.)

While not strictly "country" (meaning, I guess, big hat music), KPIG is coming on or about July 1st to 1510 AM. I'll bet they do OK, despite the little signal.

We will see but it should be fun to hear something different on the radio in the city! Good luck to them!
