WHO'LL PULL THE CHRISTMAS MUSIC TRIGGER FIRST IN LOS ANGELES?

Oh I think we know the answer to this question.

Perhaps the question should be, WHEN will the trigger be pulled.

I suspect probably shortly after Halloween.

Shortly after Halloween seems too late for me. That is when everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Didn't someone last year start really very early?

If KOST thought they could play Christmas songs on Halloween, they would. I'd lay even money that it has been seriously suggested in a meeting at some point in time.

Actually, it just hit me...

That is what KABC should do. Wall to wall Christmas before KOST gets the chance. They'd get serious publicity for the stunt (which is exactly what it would be), and it would give the new bosses two solid months to ditch the loser format they have and come back with something fresh starting in January. And the best part is, their ratings actually go UP during the two month stunt.

This time I demand a cut if they use the idea.

I agree, KABC should really do this, and have a few holiday promotions like giving away ski tickets, Christmas trees, gift cards, etc. As you pointed out it will get a few more listeners and it will buy them time to create something new and different.

Also, if KABC did this right away people would ask, "What's KABC going to do after Christmas?" and now the station has generated buzz for a new format.

Right now you can shout out a window and get more listeners than KABC.

KOST customarily goes Christmas around their annual listener party at Disneyland. It also doubles as the Clear Channel Christmas party. Employees all get tickets. Of course the KOST employees have to work the event. Sometimes they go Christmas the day before, sometimes the day after and a few years back did it at the party. So that should be around Thursday the week before Thanksgiving.

The KABC idea is a good one, but I doubt they'll get much out of music on AM. Might give them a small bump...

I wonder if KOST will do Christmas Wish this year? The guy who did them all those years isn't there anymore.

I just bought a reindeer themed scratch off lotto ticket. Big lots and Wallmart have Xmas stuff already. It is here. I would start the XMAS music now. I noticed Oktoberfest music did not last long on the cable music "seasons" channel.

I would also think KLOS will beat KOST to the punch this year.During the XMAS season, does CC have a premium channel for XMAS music?I believe the I-Heart app starts making the music available early November.

Christmas music should never begin on the radio, until Black Friday, at the earliest.

Actually I remember a very long time ago before the whole round the clock Christmas music starting with KOST ... KLAC did it on am ... it had to be at least 15 years ago and it was on AM ... I do remember that.

That's when they were doing something similar to "Music of Your Life". A format on AM that killed in the 65+ demo.
