Great news. Good luck to you!.

One of my radio gigs, I worked with a woman who had grown up
in the US Virgin Islands.

She had some funny stories to tell of her and her friends grabbing
some rum and ganga, heading out to the beach for a little bonfire,
watching the waves crashing in, and looking at the stars. And this
was when she was about 12!! Why? Because they didn't have
anything else to do. She didn't even learn to drive a car until she
was like 24! Didn't have to. Walked everywhere. Sounds like my
kind of place!

Thanks guys! It is just VT'ing but HOPEFULLY I'll get to go occasionally for station events etc. :) I'm pretty excited about it!

VERMONT.......Kidding...sheesh..VOICE TRACKING..recording spoken words between music selections and spots then wedged in to "make it appear" there is a live in studio announcer, when its really a computer. A lot of stations do that especially over night gigs, and it has put a lot of announcers out of work.

Best of luck to you young lady. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity and in the Virgin Islands no less. I can think of much worse places to be stuck in ;) Take advantage of all you can and learn as much as you are able to. And most importantly have a ball doing it! :D

Congratulations, Channing! I knew you could do it!

Let us know how that Virgin Islands visit goes - I particularly enjoyed visiting Saint Thomas and Saint Maarten a few years ago.

So I'm the guy who hired Channing and I just wanna say I can't WAIT to have this woman down here and LIVE instead of VTing!! She's all that she says she is and we're happy AND PROUD to have her at PIRATE RADIO 96.1 here in the Caribbean. Concerning the National Underwater Snorkal Trail, I actually live on St. John on a 40' sailboat so we're gonna make sure Channing hits ALL the good spots!! CHANNING, WELCOME ABOARD GIRL!! Dylan Michaels, PD, W.I.V.I, Pirate Radio 96.1 Virgin Islands. "PIRATE RADIO---WE ROCK THE VIRGINS............not to mention a few old sea hags.........ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

You know something? I've never really been a fan of voice tracking myself either. But I'm the guy who hired Channing and at this point, ALL THE MONEY I HAVE is enough to pay her to voice track at this point. We will be live on the air on August 1st, by January I'm gonna have Channing down here on the air live. I gave her what I could, she took what she needed. I mean, don't be so condensending........you make it sound like nobody here knows what VTing is in addition to giving the impression that stations that Voice Track are cheap............not the case here. And there is so much work in radio these days, any announcer worth his/her salt should have no problem getting work. GEEZ......................don't you think a GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS would have been sufficient?

I agree,especially with this line:

And there is so much work in radio these days, any announcer worth his/her salt should have no problem getting work."

Uh huh.sorry guy. If they could get work they wouldn't go to the Virgin islands, except on vacation . No offense to Channing. I wish her well, and she is a great talent, but if there was work she wouldn't be VTing you.

Me thinks Dylan missed "A lot of stations" in the original post.

Dylan, are you all going to stream it, too?

If they could get work they wouldn't go to the Virgin Islands except on vacation? You make it sound like living here is a BAD thing................and if there is no work, then why are there so many ad everywhere for talent? Look a the allaccess job boards, look on tv/radiojobs.com.

As a matter of fact we are going to stream. We're doing studio cams as well. The webpage is going to be very interactive. It's gonna be a fun ride, I just scored MNF from Westwood One, so we're pretty psyched about that because it's gonna draw a larger listener base of boaters.

Something else we're gonna start doing is cross promoting trip giveaways with interested stations back in the states. For instance, I'm gonna be sending a couple to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville(my hometown) and a rock station up there is gonna send a couple on a Caribbean getaway weekend.

Soooooooooo have a BLESSED weekend!
