Whoopie rumours

In the flash on the news headlines on this board it states a rumour about Whoopie in Providence. Anything concrete on this or is it still floating out there.

That's probably there because of the posts here. What CC should be doing is testing Whoopi in markets where the morning shows are generating dismal ratings rather than blanketing the country with her. Every market is different. Is she going to be talking about coaching girls' softball games or is this going to be edgy? CC Providence is going to be giving up a lot of localism along with Joanie's public affairs oriented presence in the market if they make the mistake of putting the dreadlocked one on.

I couldn't care less about Joanie's public affairs oriented presense. Never once in my life have I turned on my radio in the morning and said to myself that I'm going to go tune in "so and so" because they've got a nifty public affairs oriented presence! I want to hear someone entertaining who can make me laugh. That's all I care about. I bet you that 99 percent of the public only cares about same thing. Is this person on my radio going to give me a few chuckles before I head to work? That's all people really care about.

I agree with you but when discussing radio, I don't judge by what I want to hear. I want the chuckles, quick news because I know where to get it more in depth, scores without the sports drama, personalities who relate to the listeners & don't sound like they live, eat, & breathe radio to the point where they're out of touch with the public, & the music I want to hear. I wake up to WCTK. I don't spend much time with Coast mornings at all, but if I programmed the station Joanie would be there permanently because she's good for the station & what it should stand for. If her numbers aren't there anymore, then that's another matter but I'd still tweak rather than clean house assuming I had a free hand.

I don't see how she's good for the station. When I listen I hear inside jokes. And I don't know what kind of "public affairs" anyone's talking about.

She's had 20 something years to get it done, and hasn't. Clear Channel can find someone to do a better job for half the money or Whoopi for $0. It all comes down to $$$$.

Bottom line is what are her numbers although they can't be posted here. PRO FM mornings does well. I don't know about Jones cs Joan. And another thing is how is the morning show doing compared to before Brian joined them. I don't even know why he's there other than being connected in the building. He can come up with funny lines but no funnier than any other sidekick type person from Maine to Maryland. I know he's a heavy self promoter but I think the show worked better before even though frankly most of us here are guys and aren't into it.

And yes I said it last week and someone else just said it. Those bits are prerecorded which is a sign of no chemistry between the hosts.

It's the visibility that kept people like Gary DeGraide & Charlie Jefferds on the air so many years. OK so DeGraide is gone but that was a money matter which brings us to the 2nd part of your response. The visibility in terms of blood drives, aids walks, or manning the Dunkin Donuts drive-up is what Joan should be doing as they are in line with her image. Now whether or not it's working when you compare it to cost is another matter.
