Who's changing formats first, Point or Rock

Scatman, In an earlier post you said Rock 105 would get the "axe" before Christmas! Do you still stand by that fearless prediction?

The Point will probably be the first to go....whenever the time comes. Beware though if they suddenly go all Christmas music!

I don't mean to bother you fine folks here in Jax, but...

Why would Rock 105 flip? So, a major morning show moved. BUT, Rock's ratings did not revolve entirely around the mornings. Also, Classic Rock must bill much better than 80's AC.

People who do not know better should keep their lips sealed, unless they want to sling the crap about...

I know little about Jax radio, but if I were to guess, Cox has problems with a dead niche format (80's) than they do with a fairly well-established staple format (Classic Rock).

Sorry about bothering,

Oh yes they did. You should see the October numbers. Down big time, more so outside of mornings.

Wouldn't describe WFYV as a "Classic" Rocker, the guess about billing is right. Rock 105 and WAPE both led the market in revenue for years. Cox will make a format change when the billing drops off not as the ratings go down. Who knows? Rock may recover. The new PD at Point seems to have stopped the station's slide. Maybe Cox will hang tough on that one.

Imagine John Boy and Billy were based in Richmond and had double digit share for am drive and Middays and afternoons don't even pull half of that. That is the concern here. Also Eagle 96.9 has hurt them a little. From a revenue standpoint LT brought in about 65% of the billing. That will be very hard to replace. I don't think Rock will change unless CC comes out with a classic rocker which I don't see. I think that Rock will take a major hit in the numbers and in revenue in 06.

How are thing in Richmond, I worked for WKHK a while back

Well, they obviously aren't based in RIC, but that sounds like the situation at Cox's Richmond Classic Rocker, 96-5 the Planet.

Certainly understandable

Yes...I think half of that can return to AM drive now. So, they lost 30% of their billing...ouch...:)

I can agree, all I was saying is that it's foolish to think that Cox will can a long-time high-billing radio station right after L&T jump ship. This is not a K-Rock in Jacksonville, I assume.

Well, I am leaving the RIC area for an excellent gig in Savannah, GA (hence my interest in Jax radio...about two hours away). The best thing to view RIC radio is VARTV ( www.vartv.com )

Sorry about butting in here in NoFla...I'm just not one for people who spew out crazy rumors...
