Who's going to write the book??

The passing of Bob Joseph, former owner of WGCO, "Lake 102,"is a sad reminder of the fact that the legends in Atlanta radio are dying without their stories being told.
Someone needs to start writing the book now(How 'bout it Roddy??)There are only a few still with us.....Don Kennedy,(Officer Don, WKLS co-founder, GNN founder)Eathel Holley (WGKA FM/AM)are two guys that come to mind for starts. Elmo Ellis is documented fairly well but there are many others, and many, many stories. There are people, who knew and worked with the legends who have stories.....there were the great jocks and their tales of misadventure....they need to be told and preserved for the future.
I work with one of the former "Dee Rivers" family stations....I can't find a single thing on a Google search except that E.D.Rivers was governor of Georgia in the 30's. How could such a legendary family in broadcasting have absolutely no records or recorded history?
It will be sad if the story of Atlanta broadcasting, and the rememberances of the legends, which made it all happen, are not recorded for future generations!

Tom, not being disrespectful here, but rather, being realistic... the next question is "Who would read it?"
This board, and people involved in Atlanta, and Georgia, radio, are very much a minority. While those in the industry are interested - to a degree (that amount of interest diminishing in direct proportion to the younger a radio person is), most people haven't heard of these folks and wouldn't care. Again, this is not to downplay their significance, it's just that the vast majority of people simply won't care. Your search on Google is proof of that. It's kind of like the isolated marine biologist who can't understand why the rest of the world doesn't care that the Acipenser brevirostrum (shortnose sturgeon) is almost extinct.
Same reason why people listen to most of the mindless crap that's on the airwaves today anyway instead of music with intelligence, heart, passion and talent. (yeah, yeah, I know I'm going to raise the ire of a bunch of poster with THAT remark.....)

I need to apoligize, for the remark made on this board yesterday.
I wont go into details, but I will say Im learning so much about
this crazy thing called life, Things happen everyday that knock you
and your stupid comments into the dirt. I would like to offer my
condolences to the joseph family and to once again say Im sorry..
Please everyone on the board Forgive Me ?
Thanks Tom for passing on this sad
Information..
I guess My thoughts will be kept to myself and the god above,
Because I know I wont get over being an idiot.. Sorry once again
To each and everyone who reads this board. I am so so Sorry...

Good point.....didn't really think it would be on the New York Times best seller list!!! But in this day and age of a book about everything under the sun, why not??
There are a million good stories lost with every passing......

I wouldn't worry about it too much. We all say stupid things, from time to time. I certainly can't speak for the Joseph family, but I'm sure they realize you meant no harm. (By the way, I think it says a lot that you felt a responsibility to apologize)
