who's gonna DX tonight?

Ok you guys. Look at the weather for tonight, tomorrow night and thursday night. perfect DX conditions. I may stay out in the car all night tonight just to see what i can get. Probably not but i'll stay out there pretty late. But tomorrow night is gonna be the best out of the 3. it's gonna be 29 here. so it will make it quite fun for DXing.
so, i'll report on what i recieved and how well i recieved. I may even try to get audio if i can. We'll see. so if you want to report on what you get, go ahead.

Now I'll show you why I call myself "Old Guy".

The mention of DXing takes me back over five decades - to a small bedroom in the small town of Rome, Georgia.

The light is dim. There's a small table radio, and what must have been forty feet of antenna wire hung loosely around the ceiling. A pimple-faced teen carefully turns the knob, holding the latest "White's Radio Log" and keeping his ears tuned for any hint of what AM station he might be hearing. ("KSL...that's Salt Lake City!")

The kid thinks he's doing something new, when in fact many before him had trod the same exciting path and many, many more would follow.

Even in these oh-so-modern times, radio still has its magic.

yes Old Guy. I agree. even radio in orlando has gone down the tubes, it doesn't mean that people are still checking the weather and getting there hands on radios and DXing and writing what they got. I think i'm going ot take my laptop and get both writin and audio records of what i get.

Old Guy you brought back so many fond memories! I did the same thing up in the Midwest where I grew up. Occasionally I fire up the Grundig and see what I can pull in and I am surprised when I can pull in 890-WLS, 780-WBBM, 720-WGN down here (have done that a few times in '07) in Central Florida. I will see what I can get late tonight

ok guys. tonight wasn't as hot as i thought it would be. i think tomorrow night will be the best.
ok. first on 96.1 fm. some classic rock station. don't know the name but it came in with a bit of static and of course i'd hear wejz from jacksonville fight with it. i think it's out of ft myres. i'll research it.
and on 96.9 some pop station out of ft myres i think. it said something like "wake 969" or something of the sort. i also got "bob fm on 102.9" from ft myres.
and i got "wjkd" from vero.
i also heard "street heat radio" again tonight on 91.3 i see the fcc has not gotten that guy yet. no talking from what i heard. but still rap with profanity in it. i think he runs the station after 10 witch is in safe harbor but still, he's a pirate.
well that's my DX story for the night. i think tomorrow will be a whole different story.
and i didn't touch am. wasn't in the mood. i'll touch that tomorrow.

96.1 is "96 K-Rock" in Fort Myers, my hometown. That station's been around for decades!

WINK 96.9 is Hot AC in Fort Myers. 102.9 is the new "Bob FM".

I actually don't mind pirate radio stations as long as they're not interferring with a signal of one of my preset stations, which doesn't happen very often. 91.3 is borderline to WPRK 91.5 Rollins College, but I can still pick up 91.5 with no problem.

So this kind of weather makes reception clearer? I guess it's the dry & clear air, right?

ah ok. thx for clearing that up.
i don't mind pirates myself. they give good entertainment at times. i was listening to 91.3 last night again. i have nothing against the guy. i still think he runs his signal late at night. but he does give some what entertaining radio. he takes calls and stuff.
and tonight is gonna be the best for DX. I'm gonna DX tonight and today. because it's real cold here today.
