Who's listening to HD2 on the radio?

nd2023

Banned
All these stations added programming on their secondary HD channel, but can people hear them on the radio? Most people don't have an HD radio because it costs way more than an iPod or satellite radio, and doesn't work as great as analog radio. People will be listening to the HD2 programming only on the Internet.

How about a current dance format (like Party 105.3 or iPartyRadio.com) on an HD-2?<P ID="signature">______________

Mutlicast radios are selling for $299 now. There is a JVC that will be shipping early February.

I think the problem is that people don't care enough about HD radio to look for a receiver.

A quick check on e-bay found me over a dozen HD radios from the U.K. for well under $100. Of course, you'd have to go to Radio Shack and get a new wall plug for it, but no big deal...

In the UK, they're so cheap because HD radio has been around for about 5 years or so. A new HD radio starts at about $60 there...

Most people don't bother looking and really don't care at this point. Plus, I think the advertising for the few HD stations around is basically non-existant.

UK dont use IBOC Transmission so those radios would not work here in the US.

That's because the Brits were smarter. They use a seperate band to facilitate digital broadcast. It's not the huge clusterf@ck it is here. That eliminated the cross compatibilty and interference issues.

I can only hope that we come to our senses and allocate a seperate set of frequencies for Digital Radio.

Perhaps you should ask the Canadians about how well Eureka is working for them. I would not say smarter at all.

I didn't know there was a digital system in Canada that differs from the US system. I had heard of the UK system, which is why it is being discussed. It's a digital model, done correctly. Now, if you would like to discuss the nuances of the Canadian marketplace with a similar system, or if there are other technical issues you wish to bring up vs. the US system, feel free. Post a link.

Like this one...?

I have gone by my discussions with Canadian engineers. And yes they do use Eureka. I wonder if you can even buy a Eureka radio there anymore?

BTW your link is to an article that is nearly 6 years old. A lot has changed since then.

Perhaps this thread needs to move elsewhere, like the HD Radio board....

Hardly anyone knows about it yet. Ask a farmer in Iowa and he'll go "huh?:
