I'm more interested in audio processing than the actual programming. So I lined up 93.3, 102.9, 106.1 and 107.9 on the push buttons of the car radio this morning while running errands and tried to figure out who's the loudest of the 4. This unscientific study was conducted while driving across Dallas via Forest Lane and 635 and lasted about 35 minutes. The car radio was the stock unit in a 2010 Escape. It's a decent sounding radio.
In a perfect world all stations would have to play the same song at the same time to even have a chance at comparison. And I'm going on perceived loudness, not what the modulation monitor in the rack says (though we all know it's pinned to 125% and never moves).
106.1 and 107.9 are pretty close as the loudest over-all. 93.3 was loud but had much deeper bass, and 102.9 seemed ever so slightly less loud but still pretty competitive (maybe a little more female at work friendlier...surprised no one has a factory preset for that!).
I'm guessing all 4 stations are using the top of the line Omnia (11 and 9) or Orban (8500-8600) boxes.
Again the one that stood out to my ears was 93.3 with the deeper, more processed "big bottom."
What do you hear?
