Who's next?

John Hogan (Clear Channel Radio President) just did another of his senior management 're-organizations' on Monday...I think this is the tenth one in the past 5 years. Usually big cuts happen after these, as he cans the old people who realize that they're pulling marrow out of the bone now (as opposed to cutting the fat), replacing them with yes men who simply go in and saw the bones in half!

So, I'd expect to see bloodletting at CC Providence soon.

Other than management and those in production, promotions, and producers there's little fat to cut on air
Coast:It's now a one person station when it comes to live full time bodies with Tad Lemire in the morning. If anything they have to get him a co-host and I believe it will be a co-hostess.Maybe Courtney Kelley.I can't see them with a one person morning show.
HJY:paul and Al won't be touched but the show could be pared down.Since Jim Shorts work both HJY and B101 then Johnny Skidmarks could be looked at as an extra body and Shorts can handle his news.Kevin Mulhern is probably under the radar as a stunt boy but it has to be awkward working where your brother was just let go.They always have a female midday dj so it may as well be Jen.Charles is a possibility and he has to have someone there with him.It doesn't have to be Scarpetti whose been there a few years. It can be someone whose been there less time for less money.Nights are voicetracked anyway.
B101:I don't see the show being pared down since two of the members do work at other CC stations in the building unless they replace TC with someone for less.
As far as on air people there isn't a lot of cutting that can be done.

Radio is dying in Rhode Island (and a lot of other places for that matter... shocker, I know).

The older demo is not coveted by any station, yet this is the only demo to whom radio matters.

The younger demo doesn't listen to the radio. Period.

People in the middle will eventually become the older demo.

Growth industries invest money in their business. They hire people. They promote their product. Radio is no longer a growth industry. Unless the model changes drastically it will soon be over for the business we all love. It's time for broadcasters to take their heads out of the sand and face the inevitable. The medium can be saved if those in important positions of power start can thinking of ways to compete in the digital world.

I read an article recently about CEOs who "get it" because they're in touch with the consumers vs those who need to get out more. Same goes for radio. Too much inside stuff and there always has been. Do you read those "10 questions" features on allaccess? Are they a joke? Has any PD ever said anything someone didn't say before?
We have to stay in touch with our listeners and blah blah
We have to create compelling website content and blah blah
Then they stay in touch with listeners by putting voicetracked and syndicated shows and their idea of compelling website content is pix of Brangelina.
They're jokes. They have no idea which way to go so they read what the last guy said and rephrase it.
It is so ironic that the demo that no one wants is the only one who cares about radio. It's like some restaurant that has had a loyal clientele and the same wait staff for 20 years. Then they decide they don't want them anymore so they can the wait staff and change the menu. The old clientele ditches them and new people don't come in.
