Who's on 700 AM?

My apologies if this was possibly discussed in a
previous post (I did a search and didn't find anything).
Who is now broadcasting on 700 AM here in DFW?.
Heard it during the lunchtime hour driving around.
Sounded Hispanic (imagine that), but didn't get that
long to listen to it. I didn't think there were any more
avails on the AM band here. Guess I was wrong.
Or was I DX'ing something from afar?

KHSE Wylie, 700 kHz, 1,500 watts day, 920 watts night. Same owner as KFCD 990.

700 has been simulcasting 990 KFCD off and on recently. Although the FCC site shows that a request for program test authority was received back in July, there's no indication it was ever approved. Nevertheless it's on the air, and it's a decent signal but nothing spectacular considering their transmitter is located over 30 miles northeast of downtown Dallas.

Money problems, coupled with poor management, have been an issue from the start with 990 and concurrently with KHSE. It's not clear if their antenna array is, in fact, anywhere near completion; someone on the board recently suggested they just threw something together to get on the air so they wouldn't lose their construction permit. It was set to expire October 30th. Both stations were owned by The Watch Ltd. (headed up by Dave Schum), which filed Chapter 11 bankrupcy last year. The licensee now is DFW Radio License LLC-Debtor in Possession.

I found 700 AM yesterday and it's a 24 hour Asian music channel. They announced this in English and then an Asian girl started talking. ??? I have found several more of these stations around 1080 and above. So strange to hear this on AM. WHOA! Right here in Texas.

I caught some of the programming the other day on KHSE. 700 AM has a pretty good signal over Dallas for running just 1500 watts daytime, but what's really surprising is their 920 watts at night covers fairly well, too. (KHSE is licensed to Wylie, with a transmitter on the Collin-Denton County line just north of Royse City.) I was really expecting they'd get slaughtered by WLW Cincinnati, like what happens to KSEV 700 in Tomball/Houston.

When it comes to Asian formats in Texas, there are plenty in the Houston area, and they've been on for a number of years. Stations carrying Asian programming include KJOJ 880, KREH 900, KCHN 1050, KGOL 1180 and KILE 1560. Vietnamese programming is quite common, but you can also hear music of Cambodia, Thailand, India, Pakistan and other Asian nations. KREH 900 is the home of the popular "Radio Saigon" programming, and they estimate that roughly 160,000 Vietnamese-Americans live in the Houston-Galveston area.

In Dallas it's estimated that there are about half a million Asian-Americans living and working here, so the programming on KHSE shouldn't be surprising. In fact, I'd call it a pretty wise choice for the new station.

The Big One, 700 WLW, Cincinnati is who rightfully belongs on clear channel 700...
