Who's on and off in South Florida?

I heard that South Florida got hit pretty hard by Wilma on Monday -- lots of damage and still (as of 10/26) 2 million without power, with some not getting it back until around Thanksgiving.

With that in mind, does anyone know what radio and TV stations are on or off in South Florida?

104.7 FM is off. The tower and single bay antenna toppled onto the roof of the house on SW 112 Ave (south side, just west of Turnpike).

Did the Crider tower (the candelabra) in Hollywood in the Tornado Magnet (trailer Park) survive? It is short guyed and old and farther north than any other...

All Major TV Stations running out of Fuel!!

There was an understanding FEMA would provide the needed Fuel. Governor Bush was upset when asked this question and blew it off, same with the FEMA Director saying the stations should have made arrangements on their own. Channel 10 only has 48 hours worth of gas left. Got my power back an hour ago. FPL has 'promised' most Customers 'should' have power back within 4 WEEKS.

Harris is not fueling up the entire town. And it was just Radio Stations

While Harris announced this on Tuesday, it was for Clear Channel, Cox Radio, Spanish Broadcasting System and Beasley only, who have all contacted Harris with commitments for specific amounts of diesel fuel. WPLG and at least one other TV Station whose Reporter asked the Governor for help at a press conference are running out of fuel within a day or two. Bush didn't even want to hear the question, and told the Reporter that the TV Stations should of had contingency plans. However the Stations claim that FEMA had an obligation to supply the fuel, stay tuned if you can for the outcome.

The absurd thing is that stations generally install gen sets to stay on the air during relaitively short power outages, such as when a drunk hits a power post or a transformer goes out at a substation. It is really rough to get permits at many raido locations for more tank capacity than what will last a few days. This is due to zoning, fire hazard, environmental and other issues.

To say that the stations did not plan ahead is like saying 9/11 was due to not haveing antiaircraft batteries at the WTC... totally ignorant and absurd.

WSVN Fox 7 & WFLX Fox 29 in WPB are gone!

If you wait about 5 Hours you can get some Gas ($20 limit at most Stations), a bag of Ice & some Water. My Publix has power, and now I do too!. Update, less than 2 Million are without power, down from 3.5 Million

91.7 WMKL The Call was off the air due to no power but they are back on now, Both their transmitter site and studios now have electric power.

WPLG 10 gone too?

I didn't see WPLG on-air around 1PM - there was a faint signal with a soap airing which I assume is from another market?

Possibly WTSP from Tampa.

Post 960 dedicated to no one. 960 is a mess in every market I've ever lived in.<P ID="signature">______________

And what does this have to do with 7 & 29 being off?

Or maybe a station in Cuba or the Caribbean?

WSVN the News Station is back!

Beats me?

A high-band VHF from Cuba? Hahahahaha. Check the distance. The next closest place in the Caribbean would be the Dominican Republic... a bit far for a Ch. 7.

We actually only lost transmitter site power for about 8 hours - till 2PM Monday. However, a two-way public safety antenna above the WMKL antenna came loose and is swaying in the wind over the top bay of the WMKL antenna, producing increased VSWR and causing the transmitter to trip off occasionally. An adjustment was made on Tuesday to correct this and programming originated directly from the tower site until ISDN and DSL were restored at the studio on Wednesday. We were fortunate!
