Who's really #3?

I have a question......... Both Michael Savage and Glenn Beck claim to be the third listened to talk show in America. Who is actually number 3??

Don't believe those Talkers magazine lists. They just get everyone riled up and they underrate rush by 7 mil. liteners.

A few years ago, Glenn Beck was #3 in the 25-54 key advertiser catergory. This was when he was on biug stations like WATM 1100 in Cleaveland. Michael Savage is the true #3.

Does it really matter? If I were programming a talk station I would be a lot less concerned with a given host's "ranking," than how well he or she fits the needs of my station.

Wow! If only programmers thought that way!

NewHampshireDude is incorrect. Beck has been off WTAM for three years, and has been claiming the "#3 spot" for perhaps a little more than 18 months. The numbers came out shortly before his TV show. It is true that he is referring to a study of A25-54, done by Premiere actually done using Arbitron numbers. Savage has a higher cume but next to no one is the money demo. I like the show, but c'mon. Somedays I wonder if he thinks it's 1907.

I grew up in Cleveland, so I like to think highly of WTAM, but I think adding LA, SF, Seattle, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Denver, Portland, and Pittsburgh, and regaining Atlanta, all bigger markets than Cleveland, are more important. Besides, the shares on 'TAM were in many cases double digits. Having a psycho market manager pull you from a station over a few trivial jabs isn't the same as getting yanked for having no one listen. We all saw how well Jerry Springer did replacing him.

Jim does have a good point. So often station managers just seemingly pull from a list or do what the affiliate sales guy tells them to. I mean, if I'm in the South, I want Boortz and Ramsey. I wouldn't try Lars Larson anywhere but the northwest.
