Who's Selling Out?

Saw this one posted on the website of station brokers Dick Kozacko and George Kimble, among the properties they're listing on behalf of current owners;

"Syracuse, NY
5 station cluster - asking $3.5 million.

contact: Dick Kozacko"

What could that cluster be?

Clear Channel has five different programming streams (B104.7, Hot 107.9, Y94, WSYR AM/FM, and Power 620) but that's on six actual OTA signals...Cumulus has only four signals in the market (93Q, 95X, Rebel 105.9 and Sports Radio 1260); Leatherstocking has AFAIK only three (WSEN AM 1050/FM 92.1 and WFBL 1390) unless you throw in the rimshot Oneida daytimer and class A FM, WMCR AM/FM, about 30 miles down the road. Could be Leatherstocking, I guess, but the price still seems a bit low for any of these clusters...

I think Ed. Levine's Galaxy owns five stations in Syracuse. Three FM's & 2 AM's not counting FM translators. Maybe Ed is ready to retire, although he genuinely seems to love radio. He still would own stations in Utica & Rome.
The Leatherstocking idea sounds about right to me on price but they would still own 1150 in Utica, which is just a repeater of WFBL. I wouldn't be surprised, at all, if the owner was ready to sell.

Found Kozacko's website, but didn't see anything about Syracuse on there.

However, I did find this via Google:
http://cclamp.radioandrecords.com/R...=48180&ContentTypeID=103&Archive=1&FormatId=0

Looks like he was involved with WMCR AM & FM being sold to Leatherstocking in 2009... so he could be getting called back in again.

Ad would be correct in saying there's a 5-station cluster, since the two WMCRs, based in Madison County, fall within the Syracuse market's boundaries. Doubtful that Leatherstocking would hold onto WUTI alone, but (a) it can't be considered part of a "Syracuse" cluster, and (b) if the ad said "5 Syracuse stations plus one in Utica," that would be a dead giveaway. Did see a few ads for "standalone" one-station sales, so perhaps one of these was for WUTI. But like I said, didn't see the Syracuse 5-station cluster ad you mentioned on www.radio4sale.com/forsale.php ... and it's only been a few days.

Looks like the broker changed the listing from Syracuse to Northeast Top 100 Market. Someone must have hit the nail on the head on who is selling.....or at least trying. Now who might that be.......... ::)

One day later, it had been changed to read "Northeast Top 100 Market" but that is the same listing, it first said SYRACUSE. Someone may have reminded them that Leatherstocking can't be considered totally SYRACUSE Market..... ;)
