Who's Selling? Speculation, Please...

The following blind item caught my interest...

"New offering: Coastal New Jersey, (2) Class A FM Group, top notch and state of the arts operation and well managed, with cash flow and upside potential in a great resort market: Asking $4.7M"

Any clues, anyone?

The operative word is "Coastal." Capitalized.
That, we see. That's anywhere from Monmouth/Ocean to Cape May.

Too vague for my thick skull...

For a second, this message got my hopes up. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like one of the dull and stodgy broadcasters we have in Monmouth/Ocean is going to sell. It's thanks to them that this area has seven Top 40 stations and six Soft Rock stations. You can't go anywhere without hearing such mind-numbing dreck as Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, it's completely nauseating.

So it looks like Coastal is looking to sell a couple of their stations. It's safe to say that WKOE (currently Coast Country 106.7), which doesn't even register in the AC/Cape May ratings, will be one of them. The other is anybody's guess.

It would be nice to have WDOX back on FM, but for now, you can check them out online at http://www.wdox.fm . Why deal with awful Monmouth/Ocean radio when you don't have to?

It may be Coastal Broadcasting ??? But if they were going to unload anything, my bet would be wkoe Coast Country. Country is an underperforming format in Cape May County. Now before you jump down my throat with your spurs on, I only mean underperforming in the monetary sense. God knows, the market has a country fan base, advertisers just don't spend money on country. Unless you sell garden supplies, farm animal feed or fishing supplies, there's no advertising to support the station. If I was in their shoes, I'd rebrand-reformat "Koe to a Fast moving C.H.R. Concentrate on 60's 70's 80's ala "OGL" Keep it local and in your face, out in the streets with morning and afternoon drive. Fatten the pig then off to market. Take the cash and concentrate on the Coast and whatever that oldies thing is they do down there....

But that's just me....

BTW, that "oldies thing" is not owned by Coastal anymore. It's "Wibbage", owned by Rick Brancadora...

you missed where the original post says (2) as in both. So it must be WKOE & WCZT are they still owned by the guy who had WILW as well. They tried the oldies thing and failed, so they sold it in a fire sale most likely because sales were so bad they needed to stay afloat. Good luck to the guy at Wibbage but my guess is he over paid for it.
Anyone can listen for a short period of time on the net and see that their product is so poor sales must be so bad he has to sell again.
The morning show on CZT is horrible, the one guy (I think this maybe the owner becasue they call him Bob) calls everyone "my friend", has no formatics and usings a ton of crutches. The music is so all over the board and they have so many politic interviews and call ins it sounds like they are a campaign headquarters. Really a bad product. WKOE from what I can tell has 2 syn shows (morning & nights) and very poor VT talent in between. I've heard better radio at my kids high school!
Much lower price and a winning lottery ticket I may consider it and blow both of them up and make real radio down there.
So 4+ mill for these, as the SHARK TANK on ABC says, "NO THANKS, I'm Out"

What price, these days, is realistic? $2M? $1M?
As any day, what somebody is willing to pay.

That's reality!

You guys slay me! I was with you...thinking the ad might be referring to Coastal Boradcasting...until I re-read the post :
top notch and state of the arts operation and well managed, with cash flow and upside potential
. That is definitely not Coastal! I guess the key word is really "upside"...but "well managed"..."cash flow"? The only thing flowing from that place is the owner's ego!

sethjamz, you are right on "my friend":

Is the Morning Show Host/Owner/President still in North W'wood politics? The CZT studio may very well be his City Council headquarters!

Would anyone expect more in Cape May County? Why buy KOE or CZT when you can get Atlantic stations for a few dollars more? The truth is that the entire AC market is slow these days. IMO the smartest course for "Bob" et al would be to take their chances WDOX.fm and convert the Pacific Ave building to condos.
