Who's The Best Part-timers

I've been listening to a lot of radio this weekend. Which got me to thinking who's the best part-timer in Houston. You know you hear a lot of these folks who you know were full time at one time or another and I hear a lot of good people that deserve to be full time but are not for one reason or another. So who do you consider to be the best of the part-timers?

Why couldnt you start this thread when I was a part timer? Workaholic Kelly Ryan is the ultimate utility player. If this was baseball, she would play shortstop, catcher, middle reliever, right field, and groundskeeper. If she ever had a day off, I think she would call herself in. She always sounds like a pro, fits in any format, and plays well with others. She does, however, need to take a day off and ride in boats and drink beer.

Tom Austin is sounding pretty damn rockin these days.

Ed Chandler - 100.3 KILT, good voice and personality. Ed could work just about any format.

David Sadoff - Newstalk 1070 KNTH, Although not on the air, his reliability and ability to take care of being in charge of producing programming makes him a good asset to any station.

I was always a fan of Mike Sillman. Maureen on the Arrow is very good too.

You're right about Ed. How many guys work at KILT a few months and fill in for Hudson and Harrigan? In my 13 years here I can think of one-Ed Chandler.

I do not know if they are part-time or not, but I have always been a fan of Katherine Liu who was at K-Arts and is now at KUHF I think. I also LOVE Liz Jordan on KSBJ. The PD of KSBJ and I swapped e-mails a few months back and I relayed those very thoughts. He agreed, and I think you will too.

I have to mention someone else. Her name is Miko Nelson. She works for me at KNTH. Her voice is outstanding as well as her board and production work.

Leslie T. Travis at KILT-FM is great. I miss hearing her weeknights. I don't know if she's still there or not, but KMJQ used to have a woman named Pam Wells, who did weekend afternoons. She played some great music, and she had great pipes.

Leslie T. Travis is certainly someone who deserves full time. Natalie J on KCOH on Sunday nights is wonderful as well. My exwife, Lacey Fortune is very good but no longer on the air, due to her illness.

I agree with some of you. In my opinion I like Maureen on the Arrow. Kelly Ryan sounds great and Ed Chandler is one of the best. They all should be full time somewhere. Why aren't they? I know Kelly was full time once at the old KLDE and Ed Chandler sounded great there when he was doing mornings. I don't hear much of Kelly, maybe I'm just not listening at the right time but I've heard Ed on just about every show on KILT.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Colonel St. James.

I'm gonna have to go with Kara leigh (sp?) from ktbz...she always sounds good!

It's my understanding that CC Houston's only fulltime (salaried vs. hourly, healthcare benefits, etc.) evening music jocks are Zakk United and Zoey Bonet.

Ed sounds great on KILT, and he sure is cool to work with under pressure--- he doesnt freak out.

Have any of you ever been "spotlighted" in your building by Silman in his chopper?

Hey Aunti,

Thanks so much for remembering me. Yup, I'm a part-timer. However, besides me, my favorite would have to be Kevin Charles. He's outlived how many PDs, Kevin? And he still sounds great!

Thank you Colonel... I've survived and outlasted RC Rogers, Bob Harlow, Dennis Winslow, Ron Parker and now Ed Scarborough in the pd chair... and oh yeah... I've lived through 4 GMs and so far. Oh and I think I'm on my 8th morning show...and I've filled in for everyone of them except the latest...and thats only because of my schedule at Metro keeps me from it.

I would have cast my vote for Michael Vee but he's gone over to the full time side...(For now)

Although Kara is awesome, she isn't part-time. She picked up the imaging director duties for the Mix and Mega after Louis Cruz left....

My favorite PT would have to be Anthony Chase on Sunny overnights.... what a great new talent!

Every now and again I think I might like to do an airshift again. When I get that feeling I usually just take a nap and I feel better, and that whole feeling passes.

The parts of radio I really loved are pretty much all gone...its like the fond memories I have of college. But as the apostle Paul once said, "...when I was a child I spake as a child." I isolate the things I liked about college and realize that what I really liked was screwing around, drinking beer and hanging out at the radio station.

Strangely, what I liked about radio was screwing around, drinking beer and hanging out at the radio station. ;D

Ahhh...I liked more about radio than that, but I went forever without getting canned. Then one day I woke up and Clear Channel owned everything in the world. Let me tell you: There ain't enough beer in the world to make that fun.

Sean, if you did return on a part time basis, that would put you at the ahead of everybody else. I don't say that because we're old roomates and buddies. During that time at KNUZ, I watched and heard a true pro who loved what he was doing on the air and conveyed to his listeners...both of them, Thelma Daquid and Bobby Langham....just kidding, my man. We always had a great time at KNUZ in spite of the situation and you were always cookin. I wouldn't trade for a second.
