Who's the best/worst jocks in Portland?

Mike Violette a sissy you ask? Yes he is. His reputation for being a cry baby and self absorbed wind bag is older than the "just for men" package in his medicine cabinet at home...the Jay Leno look is working for him either. First off, he's no tank...he is one more example in the ever growing list of things where size doesn't matter. The only thing big about mikey is his ego and his mouth. You need to have more confidence in yourself my friend, the only fight mike could possibly beat you in would be a donut eating contest. I was talking with a former co-worker of his from his time in Augusta last weekend. It is a wonder he has a gig at all. He only got hired by the Augusta group as a slap towards his prior employer that had just canned him where ever he was working before that. According to them you would be more physically threatened by his former crutch Eric "Where is He Now" Liembacher (or however you spell it). I know you are experienced enough in this business to know that it takes more than a deep voice to be a good jock...and mike has never been a good jock...ask him how long he has been in the business and where it has taken him. So yes I say he is a sissy, he was when he was in high school and he remains one today...all mouth and no gems.

I had the chance to listen to WGAN when I was on Cape Cod a few weeks back and I really enjoyed the top of the hour newscasts. The anchor seemed top notch although since I didn't know what the heck they were talking about, I didn't listen beyond the headlines. Nice job though.

Mike Violette is a hypocrite, he is lead by the noise by a racist pastor who calls himself a "man of God". After the Rev. Bill Cripe was on one of his rants about the Kennebuc Journal censoring him, not two seconds later Mike was yelling at a caller trying to explain that Mike was the host of the show and he alone determined who could say what on his program. Funny thing... the Rev Cripe did not say one word.

Best AM Show in Portland - Even though I haven't been in the market that long ther are a few shows that I think are doing well. I like POR's Show who is probably the best in all of Maine and up and coming is the WMSJ show. I know they are not as widely known, but I think they are topical, funny and relate to their target.

Worst Show - Anything on WHOM. If I have to feel like I'm being licked evertime I listen to the radio then I'm going to become a couch potato.

Great discussions on this board and I hope they continue.

Peace!

I had the pleasure of working with Tommy C some THIRTY years ago at the then WLTI in Lowell... (soon to be WJUL now WUML) He was a great radio guy even back then, He also did time at 99.5 WSSH and the AM side WLLH around the same time.

Generic Answer:

Anybody on the air who can constantly take the same music day-in and day-out and still make it sound exciting to a listener! [I'm thinking of Chuck Igo's morning show on OLDIES 100.9, but I know there are several others]!

The same goes for local talk show hosts who can come up with a few solid suggestions about SOLVING STATEWIDE PROBLEMS instead of just complaining about the problems during their airshift. ::)

Surprise Underminer...I'm not!!

But I have worked with Chuck in the past...and I know that he's very serious about his airshift...not to mention his writing and production. ;)
