Who's the retard on WGRR, Saturday nights?

Ya know...it's embarrassing when you have out of town friends come into Cincinnati, and they ask "who's that retard on WGRR that can't complete a sentence?". Then you hear "your town used to have some great stations"..."what happened??"

I say "I dunno"..."I guess he works cheap...like the rest of the lame staff at WGRR".

Too bad. They used to care about what came out of the speakers in this town.

You may be talking about Scott Hurst, who hasn't improved since he was on WVXU, 30 years ago. He is not a long term WGRR member. He came from MOJO in the swap.

frr first of all the shift at grr in the am is from 5_9 with chris and janeen then 9-2 with rockin' ron
but you do seem to have a lot of talent you can read and type. why not send wgrr a tape tell them you want
to do the 6 to 10 shift. i am sure wobo will let you out of your non comp clause

Whoa there, promoking, don't go all caps on us. Don't let FRR (friend of Ronald Reagan??) get you riled. All you have to do is read back through his posts to realize he's one of the disgruntled WDJO people who were cast off from GRR a few years ago - either that or he has a crush on Dusty Rhodes. He only mentions the station and it's website in oh, every other comment he posts.

Wow Bob, I never knew any one cared enough to read my humble opinion back that far. You guys just need to settle down and not get your blood pressure up so high. Like the other guy said, maybe I'm just not as "astute" as he suggested. Relax, it's still America, and all of us don't have to agree with each other in order to live on the planet.

AH HA THAT SO THAT IS WHY YOU THINK MORNING DRIVE IS FROM 6 TO 10 ( IT WAS ABOUT 6-7 YEARS AGO)
you must be from a different planet. planet dojo it is still 1959 there. as far as my blood pressure it takes
more than a missinformed wannabe to get me riled . have fun at the sock hop this weekend

"The One" who started this short-sword fight is also WDJO. Sad, really.

So far, I haven't read anyone saying they'd actually hire Scott Hurst to even call out burger orders at Wendy's, let alone try to do an airshift. Over and above who likes what station, that's what this post started being about.

How about it? Anyone really think he belongs on a real radio station?

1st he is on a real radio station wgrr 2nd he was on areal radio station mojo.
the powers at cumulus felt he was worthy of a job at a real radio station they
kept him after the swap. again send them a tape. i'm sure as good as you are
cumulus will buy out your contract from waif
he may not be the beast but he is not the worst

Would you like to work at a Radio Station on Saturday Nights for minimum wage??? If so, send your tape in!!! What do you expect for minimum wage??? Welcome to Corporate Radio... coming soon, VT'ed Saturday Night's or Saturday Night Jukebox. Clear Channel and Cumulus really have made Radio a much better place!!!

Promoking, you're not paying attention. I asked who thinks he BELONGS on a real radio station...Not is he ON one. All THAT proves is for what they are paying, that's the best they can get. It doesn't make him talented, it makes him employed. He's a high school radio level dj - whether they put him on a "real" station or not.

If I wanted to give up my Saturday nights for the stipend they're paying, I'm sure they'd jump at it. Just about anyone who loves radio enough to regularly read and post on this board would be better than Scott, but like them, I have a life. I don't want to do weekend nights anymore. I saw that movie when I was 25.

If you're Scott Hurst, it's terrific they want you for Saturday night. If you hired him, you should be embarassed - not that he's that bad - that you can't afford anyone better.

Scott Hurst is a nice guy. A very gentle soul. But he's a bad disc jockey. That doesn't make him a bad man and the fact that he's on a real radio station doesn't make him good.

arbi your right thank you for pointing that out.i got caught up in the mindless jabber.
scott hurst may not be the most talented. but call a person a retard is just low.
i had the chance to meet scott at a grr function a while back. he was very easy to talk to
i though he did a good with the public.
as far as does he belong on radio cumulus does . that my friend is all that matters

I agree with Arbitron! I worked at a radio station [sort-of a “real one”] on Saturday nights, but I was in college at the time – and I made a whopping $2.65/hour... At midnight, I unrolled my Boy Scout sleeping bag in the conference room, caught six hours of sleep, and signed on both stations at 6AM to enjoy the usual Sunday morning fare. Arb’ nailed it – I saw that movie when I was 20 – don’t think I wish to see it again.

I’m just happy there wasn’t an internet and its notorious forums when I manned that position... All I had to deal with was the occasional phone call from a disgruntled listener who couldn’t get his request for “Afternoon Delight” played – and told me that I “s**ked”... ‘And I don’t think I “s**cked”, BTW... LOL!

All in all. WGRR is a good station, but I enjoy Gary’s Saturday night show on WDJO much more.

Why wouldn't you use an A-team guy like Ron, JD, Steve, or someone that can do a good shift on Saturday nights on WGRR...rather than (as Arbitorn described) someone that's high school level radio? They can voicetrack the shift, rather than throw it away with subpar talent. I like what WGRR sounds like, except for weekends!! Use good jocks, or use technology to deliver good jocks!

BTW, this string shouldn't be just about 'GRR...heard WLW lately? How about 'KRC mornings?? 2 Angry Guys, Mo Eggers, Seg (doing talk), Alan Cutler (and all of Homer...f'd up sports talk station), Dusty (in mornings???), Jim Scott reduced to lame recorded interviews with boring authors, ditto for McConnell, Tracy Jones, and Radio 94.1????

Worst number I've seen for 'EBN, and let's not forget about B-Country (WTF??), and 97.3 is below an AM station playing oldies. Where are the Mormons??? Where are the Dickeys????

ALL TOGETHER NOW, RADIO PROFESSIONALS..."It's embarrassing!!" Don't blame yourselves.

Perhaps the reason why they are not using an A-team guy is to give someone experience so when they need someone to fill-in, they will have an extra body in the station to help on weekends with remotes, vacations, or any other time they may need a fill-in. It also gives that person experience, plus it's a live show for Saturday's.
