Who's the retard on WGRR, Saturday nights?

Whatever you might think the guy sounds like, that station pulled some very solid numbers for that Saturday night airshift. Regardless of what he's working for (why is that your business?) or if he sounds like he should or shouldn't be on the station, the fact is, he is.

He must not be turning off that many listeners, Arbitorn.

And since when does anybody on this board get away with calling someone a retard? I can't believe admin. let this thread get this far.

bates i agree with you 100%. like i said before if anyone thinks they can do better send a tape. tell cumulus
your wage demands.presto problem solved. however you might not sound any better after holding your
breath so long

I agree that name calling is inappropriate.

The guy sounds very small market to me. It's a judgment call. I don't have to be able to play the game to criticize it unless you're Tracy Jones. Regardless of how I'd sound in an airshift, I can have an opinion. He's #2 25-54 and 5th 12+. You're right about his numbers. Wonder how many listen for the music and comedic effect, rather than his clever banter.

The funniest part of this whole thread is that "The One" was listening to Scott Hurst on a Saturday night with his friend in the first place. If it's such bad radio, why not turn it off?

Bates, defending mediocrity on the basis of numbers is a hollow defense. WGRR is a good station. It's not a great station anymore, but they have finally found the tipping point where they are playing enough of the right kind of music to serve the otherwise unserved (people in their 30s to late 40s) so that people will leave their radio dials put. That doesn't mean that Hurst is a good jock. I'm sure he's competent in his technical skills, and can keep an eye on evening operations there and the other stations in the building. He's probably a nice guy, but wouldn't be on a station like WGRR if the state of radio wasn't in crisis mode.

I completely agree with your comment about using the word 'retard'. The One's defense will be, "I didn't say it, my friend did," but that doesn't mean it required repeating. For some reason only they can explain, some at WDJO still feel the need to stand on the sidelines and throw stones at WGRR, even though the station has almost completely changed in staff, management and concept from the time when those with a grudge were dismissed.

This board and the radio community at large has done nothing but cheer on WDJO in its efforts to succeed. Yet the chip on the shoulder continues. It's sad that some who claim to be struggling at a small station for "the love of radio" refuse to move beyond their juvenille insecurities. At the end of the day, it's still about egos, and those who don't think they get the respect they feel they deserve.

I listen to WDJO because I really like the music. However, calling someone on the radio a "retard" is grade school and childish. If you dislike the named personality, turn off the radio, it is really a simple decision. I do not think that Dusty or Cool Bobby are insecure as you claim, great jocks. WGRR was the #1 rated station in the nation on weekends with Cool Bobby and Dusty. WGRR was a GREAT station with the old crew, as more than several out of town people have pointed out that fact to me. WGRR is just a good station and I really enjoyed listening to everyone of them, even Jim. WGRR was a great station as the old Q102 was an awesome station and 'EBN has been great for years.

Shark

Thanks for the comments, shark. I agree with everything you said, but I just want it on the record that I didn't mention any names when I brought up the issue of egos and respect issues.

I know exactly who he is.

I'm not looking to out anybody, but I think when someone picks on an individual in such a mean-spirited, juvenille manner just to get another dig in at a station they need to be called on it. Let it go. Seriously.

VT'ed Saturday Night's or Saturday Night Jukebox coming soon??? It's already been a way of life at some stations for quite some time now.

I am entering this conversation based on the fact that I think some things need to be addressed. First of all Oldies 1160 WDJO is infact a real radio station. Secondly, competition really does not matter that much when it comes to some formats. If there is not another Oldies station in a particular market, broadcasting companies will create one in some cases simply to satisfy people who like 50's 60's and 70's rock n roll. I personally don't give a damn if someone from DJO started the fight here, the station plays good music, the air staff always sounds cheerful, and they do not sound disgruntled in anyway when ever I listen. Now if some of you previous posters want to yell at me, cuss, raise hell, etc, I really don't give a damn about that either. This post started out as being about WGRR not WDJO. I don't listen to WGRR anymore so I really cannot comment on what goes on at that station. But I for one, would really appreciate it if you would stop bad mouthing WDJO and it's airstaff.

Traditional

trad you have really missed the point. the first posting was not about "wgrr" but about a person on wgrr
a very offensive comment. if you have a family member who is "retarted" offensive to them
if you are "retarted " offensive to you and very offensive to mr. hurst and his family.
\stop bad mouthing wdjo and it's staff. the first posting was ,as some stated, started by a wdjo
upper managament person.
yes djo does sound good both the music and jocks. but the remark was both uncalled for and very low life

How about we put the shoe on the other foot, Traditional? If a member of the WGRR airstaff/management staff posted a derogatory comment about a member of the WDJO airstaff on this board calling him, let's say for the sake of argument, a "retard" would you have a problem with that? Would you give a damn then?

Did you listen to them before they were WDJO, when they were WSAI - with essentially the same staff? Did you listen to them talk about "The Evil FM Station"? They even had it in their recorded liners! Did you listen to them between the good music and cheerful banter take daily shots at WGRR? Then, years later, they still come to this radio- "info" board, and I use the word info loosely, and call members of the airstaff names. Why, Traditional? Can you tell us why?

No one's saying that you can't be a fan of WDJO. But don't come on this board and defend an obviously biased and tasteless comment - or the one who made that comment - because you like the sound of their station.

Bates

All I know is I cant listen to DJO ever, because the signal is horrid. I listen to GRR in passing. But DJO should get a stronger signal before they start badmouthing GRR, I would think.

half dawg what the hell does the signal have to do with calling someone a name.
again this is not about wgrr or wdjo it is about an insenivtive remark about some who just happenes to be on the air at wgrr
now that is said mr. hurst if you read this you are to good to be on wdjo

Unless someone is willing to come out on this board and identify themself and the poster of the original comment, I hesitate to believe that the original comment was made by a WDJO staffer. With that being said, I listen to Scott Hurst on the way home from work, and have no problem with him. Yes, I also listened to Scott when he was on WVXU 30 years ago, maybe he could improve, then again, have any jocks posting on this board won DJ of the year in a national competition? I say lay off WDJO, they are good at what they do, and GRR is good at what they do. No one should ever call someone else a retard, especially in a public forum like this, and I wonder how the editors of this site have allowed the original posting to be up as long as it has.

Paraphrasing Ronald Reagan, June 12th, 1987:

"There is one sign the Editors can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. Editors, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for WDJO and WGRR. Editors, tear down this thread!"

You think every post somehow equates back to what you say. Get over yourself.

All I was responding to was the guy who mentioned DJO badmouthed GRR in on-air spots and such. I wasn't aware of that, so I made my comment.

It was in no way intended towards anything you've said, nor did it require a poor-grammered response from you.

Thanks! ::)

Wait, maybe the ONE who calls himself THE ONE -- and is The One who started this ill-named thread -- really was talking about the playlist on Saturday night. "Retard" in music means a slackening of tempo.
