WHO'S THE VOICE GUY AT THE RANCH?

Hopefully someone can answer this for me. I was In Dallas and then traveled to Ft Worth on a business trip and got to listen to the country stations. I was wondering who is the voice guy on The Ranch? He sounds alot like the guy on The Wolf. Are they the same person?

No, Barry Corbin is the voice guy on The Wolf, don't know who the voice guy is on The Ranch

Last time I heard them it was Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel... but that was a few years ago.

More suitable concern, "What is the Ranch?"

The Ranch is 95.9 In Fort Worth. A Country Station. Moving the tower a little bit north and will soon be heard somewhat in McKinney and Pretty Solid In Denton.

Maybe they should swap programming with KTFW...much better, although lately they've gone downhill a bit.

Why don't they move the tower closer to Downtown Dallas? That would be great.

They are. But only by around five miles or so. KFWR's situation is no different than all the other rim-shots since they had to make several changes, the most obvious being moving the Jacksboro station out of the way. Like all the others they'll be located as close to the Cedar Hill antenna farm as they can possibly be under the existing separation rules. Regardless of the class of the station involved (C, C0, C1 or C2), if they're separated by .4 or .6mHz they have to be no less than about 65 miles away (105kM) from the Cedar Hill Class C's. Those separation rules have been in effect for decades and are unlikely to be changed.

KFWR is moving to a different site, north of their current one, going up in class from a C1 to a C0. The power is going from 80 to 100kW and the antenna height is being increased from about 1100 to just over 1400 feet. That might sound impressive but the resulting coverage of D/FW will be only slightly better. Granted, the signal into Fort Worth will be improved but overall KFWR's coverage will not be nearly as good as even the northwestern rim-shots (93.7, 96.7, 98.3, 99.1, 101.7, 105.7 and 106.7).

And about the Ranch's voice guy, I haven't cared much about them since they got rid of my girl Nadine.

Do you have a proposed map?

Forgive that this is a bit off topic, but what are the odds of Classic Country 92.1 in Farmersville ever having a better signal ?

Sure, but let me clarify something. KFWR will meet the 65-mile rule with a little to spare, but another important thing that figures into the equation is the fact that there are two Class A co-channel stations on 95.9, in Sulphur Springs and Malakoff. The required distance in that case is 133 miles; Malakoff is almost exactly that and Sulphur Springs is roughly 138 miles from the new KFWR site.

Here's the new KFWR "service area" (60 dBu) map, but note that the city-grade (70dBu) contour lies well within the circle, that is, it doesn't include downtown Fort Worth: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1328817.html

For comparison, here's the service area for 96.7: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FS548116.html

Finally, here's a map showing what the actual city-grade coverage should be, but it's a little hard to read so you might want to zoom in on the image (scroll down to page 5): https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101328817&qnum=5300&copynum=1&exhcnum=1

Slim to none, due to the distance to Cedar Hill (KZPS and KKXT adjacent), and two co-channel stations, KTBB-FM Tyler and KTFW Glen Rose.

Thanks jd. That's what I was thinking. I live in the Lakewood area of Dallas & sometimes 92.1 will
flutuate between the Farmersville Classic Country & another Classic Country which I've assumed is the Glen Rose station. Didn't know that Tyler also had a 92.1.

Well, we're not sayin' that the other country radio stations are "light in the loafers," but we've never actually seen them with a woman...

(that's the funniest liner I hear quite frequently on the Corsicana Ranch station -- KFVR)

I think their station in Corsicana is better than their "flagship" in FW...it relies mostly on the music, with just enough "personality" mixed in. The FW station thinks they have to run after every cast-off from the Wolf or KSCS.

You know, I really think you're right. 106.9 KRVF has a studio in Corsicana and a tower east of there near Kerens ("Kerns" to the locals, I have to point out, as I was born in Corsicana). It has good coverage of Navarro County as well as a fairly good signal in parts of Ellis County, and you hear commercials from businesses all around the area. Sure, it's a niche station and not the epitome of professionalism, but it's into super-serving their market with absolutely no pretentiousness. Sounds like they're having fun doing it.

I think its a guy named Jim/Jeff/John Wilson?? Some guy out of North Carolina or somewhere on the east coast.

What would help the 92.1 in Farmersville? For starts, putting some money into engineering. But the owner is too busy running for office in Rockwall County.

They don't seem to have much range, at least not heading into Dallas.

The VO guy is Jack Murphy. http://jackmurphy.com/

He's a good guy.
