who is not producing, who has overstayed their welcome, who sucks?
could someone do better? just a poll friends.

I really hope everything stays as is at WTIC. Can you imagine Michael Smerconish in the morning on that station? Ugh!

Yeah, like this topic hasn't been covered on this board! How about something positive for a change?

If you find anything positive happening anywhere in radio, please let us know.

Hartford radio deserves to be bashed and trashed because it's total garbage. There isn't one station worth listening to. AM stations that claim to be local and serving the community are on network satellite feeds most of the day. FM with the same old worn out bits in morning drive, midday liner readers, afternoon jocks more concerned about hitting posts in songs than what's coming out of their mouths and way too many commercials. Anyone who has a radio on to listen to commercials is a total idiot.
First to exit has to be Gary Craig. How CBS can pay him $500k a year is mind numbing. Probably major voice tracking at DRC. The Hershey Highway 105.9 is a total joke. The CT FM radio dial should be blown to bits and start over from scratch. ::)

Isn't it strange how you always post at about 9:30 every weekday morning. What's your story? Bitter much?

Very unhappy with the state of radio in general. Don't have much use for corporate suits a thousand miles away calling the shots for a local station. And yeah, been burned many times in the business and this is a great place to vent! ;D

Yes, and I don't disagree with you, but calling people idiots for listening to a station you don't like is a bit much.

I would dump 96.5 TIC and The River 105.9 all together. Maybe I'm stupid, but I think CBS should flip 96.5 to Urban AC that way they'd have the Urban Audience to themselves - the younger Urban Audience with HOT 93 and the Older Audience with the new Urban AC format on 96.5 and I'm sure a small percentage of the listeners would listen to both. (Count me in that catergory). Of course CBS probably wont do anything too dramatic aside from more cost cutting. (Yes they are for sale still. I correspond with someone who works for CBS and they say CBS is still looking to sell the Hartford Cluster. They did not however say whether or not they'd split up the cluster or not). As for 105.9, I say CC should sell it to Marlin so they can move their Classical format there from 1290 AM/106.9 HD-2, after all that was their plan if they had won the bidding for 104.1 FM.

There is not one jock on KISS 95.7 I would keep. New talent, eliminate The Seacrest Snoozefest, and a few other things.

As for DRC-FM I'd keep JK on in the mornings (but make him give up those stupid celebrity impersonations) but I'd have the show go 6AM-10AM (rather than 5-9). Then I'd put Mike Stevens live in Middays 10-3, Flyod Wright live in Afternoon Drive 3PM-8PM, Chris Ryan live in the evenings 8PM-1AM, and a newbie who wants to polish his skills live overnights 1AM-6AM.

At Lite 100.5 I'd eliminate Delilah (which airs overnights 12AM-5AM during the week) and replace her with local host Greg Roche (who does the JAZZ show on Sunday Mornings. I'll keep him there as well). Delilah also airs 7PM-6AM on the Weekends. I'd hire local talent to fill that spot as well.

At WTIC (AM) I'd eliminate Jim Vicevich and replace him with a rehired Diane Smith.

At WDRC (AM) I'd eliminate Brad Davis (along with the 5AM simulcast of the Ch. 3 News). I'd move Dan Lavallo to mornings but have his show go 5AM-9AM. Carry all 3 hours of Glenn Beck 9AM-12Noon, Carry all 3 hours of Dr. Joy Live 12PM-3PM, bring back Mary Jones's weekday show 3PM-5PM, move Phil Mikan's show to live 5PM-7PM, carry Savage Live 7PM-10PM, and air Dr. Laura on delay tape 10PM-1AM. As for Saturdays I'll have Dan Lavallo on 6AM-10AM, Kim Komando live 10AM-1PM, Phil Mikan's weekend show 1PM-4PM, The Pet Show (from WOR) Live 4-6, The Dolans (from WOR) 6PM-8PM. As much as I hate to I'll put infomercials on 8PM-9PM, then The Other Side with Steve Godfrey 9PM-12AM, radio Mystery Theatre 12AM-2AM. As for Sundays 5AM-6AM Public Affairs Programing, 6AM-8AM Festival Italiano de Connecticut, then live from WOR 8AM-2PM The Garden Show, Car Show, and Travel Show. 2PM-4PM will be Food Talk from WOR, 4PM-6PM The Best of Dr. Laura, 6PM-9PM The Best of Dr. Joy, and Radio Mystery Theatre 9PM-1AM.

See? No music on a talk station. And infomercials cut to just 1 hour. And for good measure NY Giants football.

Marc B you have some good ideas. I would like to see most of them happen. RCH would sound so much better live for 19 hours a day. Probably won't happen because of budget cuts. KSS needs to be overhauled. You would get rid of Larry Wells on DRC-FM? He's been there close to 30 years. Don't think that's gonna happen.
DRC-AM will never dump Brad Davis. He should have been tossed after he supported that criminal the ex Govenor John
G. (G=Greed) Roland. Then to give Roland's wife her own segment on his show. That was a beauty! With Brad Davis it's any kind of publicity is good publicity????? Early senility I guess? Dan Lovallo would be a good morning show host.

I have pointed out positive things in CT radio over many posts for many years. I could recap some of them, but the environment in this thread doesn't seem very receptive right now. It's easy to anonymously bash stations, big corporations and air personalities. I know it's not pretty when radio catastrophes hit you, but you can learn and grow from them or dwell on how unfair things can be. I work and have worked with great people who try their best. Some things go wrong. A lot goes right. What more can you ask?

No publicity at all is my policy if they are that bad. Keep such a one small so that the big time - and the rest of America or the world -will not have to deal with the headache. In all of my years I have only heard two people who were so bad. They both went from big market to teensy market early on - and never recovered. It's where they are stuck until they decide to make a career change entirely. Since they won't do that, they are stuck.

jeanne jersey pd of 96-5 tic is out. staff has been notified and the announcement will be made public friday. last scheduled day is thursday april 30th.

I know when they cut a few people late last year, and they retained Jim, the response wasn't well receptive. But I would say they kept Jim based on his following (his "chat room" seems to be buzzing during his show, or so he says) and plus he sounds like a great complement to Rush.

CBS is going to save a boat load of money when they refuse to re-sign Gary Craig's contract. To the tune of $500k.
You can do lot with that kind of coin.

I know you're being sarcastic, but I would only put you on the air on my station if your show went back to the political heavy shows you were doing before WXCT went Spanish the first time in 2004. No offense, but the shows you did when WXCT was revived in late 05 that lasted until May 07 in weren't that good. I know you were trying to avoid politics on WXCT when it was revived, but you should've continued the political heavy shows. It's what you did best, IMO. I liked the debates between you and that guy from East Hartford. You know the one that allegedly threatened the mayor of Bristol on the air and you and him had to make an apperence down there. The one that got the station in The Hartford Courant albeit with the wrong Calls Letters. And not to mention your tirades about the corruption of the Southington School System, where the former superintendent told you he doesn't have to tell you why he was shopping at Stop & Shop on the tax payer's dime. That was good stuff.
