Who's Your Backup?

Rock radio consultant Fred Jacobs writes in today's blog,

"The news of Tim Russert's passing still seems unbelievable. No one could have possibly anticipated this tragic event. Yet, NBC News ... called veteran news anchor, Tom Brokaw, out of semi-retirement to handle Russert's hosting duties, at least through the election." And that raises the question that many radio managers and programmers should be asking: What would you do in a similar circumstance if something tragic befell your big morning guy or team?

Calling all airchair PDs: Who would be your replacement for (and why):

Dave Rickards
Jeff and/or Jer

I think this is a crass and terrible thing to discuss openly. Tim was the best at what he did, and nobody expected what happened, nor should they have. You don't think about it, it is a filthy thing to think about.

And that's my opinion about that.

Uh, huh..... and following that line, for Howard Stern, Ken Copper?

The way it has been going, the back ups are syndicated shows. That's all for Prophet ... or profit.

Your results ... probably won't vary. Look at all the mid-day shows (nationwide) that were silenced when KIIS' Ryan Seacrest Coast to Coast. The same is happening from an Arizona base on a morning show.

Agreed Chris!
And I'll add, if the show is good, why not prophet?
What we should be asking is not "Who's your back up for Jeff and Jer or DSC," but "Why not Jeff/Jer and DSC VT'd to some where else?"
None of the shows that I have heard VT'd are nearly as good as the one we are talking about. J&J and DSC (like em or hate em) interact with their audience.
Sorry Kidd Kraddic and Ryan Seacrest, can't say that about your shows. But guess which ones are syndicated? Uh huh!

"Why them," not "who," is the question we should be asking!
