WHP in Lancaster

WLAN 1390 in Lancaster is now simulcasting WHP. It must have started today. I rather enjoyed their Oldies format, but most of the time I was probably the only one listening.

if WHP is simolcasting on 1390 now...wouldn't cumulis raise an objection since WHP and WSBA both carry Beck, Rush and Sean.? I f I was in charge of AM910 I would be raising cain. Also, arn't WHPs morning and pm drive shows pretty much aimed at the Harrisburg metro area audiance? how will that play with the Lancaster crowd?

As of right now, 1390 still plays local (lancaster commercials) and still 1390 spots, it is not totally re-broadcast of 580.

I'm sure the stopset split is the main reason for doing this. Otherwise, WHP 580's signal is extremely strong in Lancaster, even on their night pattern. Check Radio Locator, Lancaster is on the middle of their main nighttime lobe.

With the exception of the center city Lancaster and much of the immediate suburban area, WHP will still have the stronger signal on 580 for most of Lancaster County. At night....if you're more than about 4 miles out of the city, you better dial 580.

Nothing WSBA can do---Lancaster is a separate metro market from York. It does seem like an odd move with 580's signal being as strong as it is.

But since Clear Channel owns Rush and Hannity, can't they just revoke their shows from WSBA? Kinda like a move they pulled in markets like Boston and Raleigh when erecting a new news/talk station in a market.

I probably haven't listened to 1390 since Rick Lewis and Charles Monroe Thomas were there....yes 1970s. I turned on 1390 this morning on the way to work and the simulcast was Glenn Beck. I thought from W. Hempfield to Marietta the signals were about the same as on 580. Tonight when I left work, apparently WLAN either goes off the air or greatly reduces their power because I wasn't hearing them whatsoever.

Just saw that Cumulus is oging to be syndicating Mike Huckabee weekdays from noon to 3p starting in April. Ya think they might dump Rush and put there guy on 910 ? they probibly will put there show on one of there stations in this market. Or do you think they would put Huckabee on one of there other stations and compete against themselves from noon to 3 each day? Rush IS starting to get a little "long in the tooth".

They GREATLY reduce there signal Steel, I also live in West Hemp, after 8 pm,I loose them as soon as I pass the landisville exit of 283, beyond that, they are gone, where 580 comes in real clear.

Since WLAN moved to the WLPA tower they run about 1100 watts day and only 18 watts at night non-directional. In Willow Street tonight both WLPA and WLAN were hard to hear but WHP came in clearly due to their better night signal.

I can guarantee Mike Huckabee will not be a ratings grabber, nor will he replace Rush, Hannity, Beck or anyone else in the local market. There's much better syndicated talent already than what Huckabee would provide, but none will hold a candle to the ratings Rush brings in daily.

Totally agree but remember this is Cumulus we're talking about. Dumping Rush would be a mistake but don't bet against it happening.

Oh, come on! Cumulus owns the show, so it's all profit if it's on a local Cumulus station. I'm sure Rush will provide better ratings, but his show also costs a ton of money. Huckabee could have big financial benefits.

Assuming WSBA still has some long standing advertisers, wonder what the explanation to them will be that the show they supported for years is gone. And one that still performs in the ratings. Good luck with those conversations.

And get ready for Geraldo to replace Beck.

What after that, Dennis Miller takes over Savage Nation?
