WHP switches to FOX News

When did this offically happen? I heard their top of the hour report just at noon, on my way into Harrisburg.

I am going to miss ABC News on WHP.

Well, they finally are starting the switch around the country to FOX in a deal that Clear Channel made with FOX Radio either late last year or early this year.

Who will jump at the chance to get ABC News; especially with Paul Harvey, and the other great feature programs available from ABC?

> When did this offically happen?

They started broadcasting Fox News Radio reports on Monday. I'm pretty sure that these top-of-the-hour reports are a brand new service from Fox, because Monday and Tuesday there were some REALLY egregious technical problems. I mean, it sounded REALLY bad. They seem to have sorted those issues out, though.

This is a huge change. I will miss hearing Doug Limerick, my favorite radio newsman. WHP is still carrying Paul Harvey.

Remind me to send them an apology for hitting their dish with a baseball. I bet I got a good 20 degrees off the second throw.<P ID="signature">______________

While I'm sure they would appreciate your contrition, the technical problems I am speaking of were:

1 - Taped segments from reporters not being played back when they were supposed to.

2 - A news anchor mispronouncing 3 VERY common words in a single 2 minute newscast.

It was bad. But, they're better now.

WIOO is, and has been for years, an ABC Information Network affiliate.
We carry everything except Paul Harvey, which WHP still carries. That includes the weekend sports updates at :06 (when we're not in a NASCAR race), and ABC News Journal and Johnny Holiday Sports in our noon report.

I never liked Johnny Holiday. I remember when I was doing tv work in washington dc summers in college and when Stern was on dc 101 he was railing Johnny Holiday on his air name.

Are you sure that wasn't 'HP's own newscast? 8)

Limerick's the best at signing off, padding the final 5 seconds with just his name...

Douuuuuuuuug Limerick (2 second pause) AAAAAAAA-Beeeee-Seeeeee News.

Also the Gils: Gil Gross, the only network anchor who can pull off a little mischievous topical comedy in his casts, and Gil Fox, whose voice is smoother than the Smart Balance Buttery Spread that Paul Harvey is constantly harping on.

Re: ABC Still on in the Midstate

I thought HP was going with an all spanish format, like that station in Sellinsgrove...

EL PERRO! 580!!!

Listener Litmus Test?

When I tried to tune in the other day, a voice came out of the radio asking if I supported Roe v. Wade! New liner: "WHP/580--Rightwing Radio on AM's Left End."
